Absent here is the technological horror and galaxy-sized megalomania that is the author's trademark (at least that's what I've always loved about his writing!). But there's still plenty of mystery and adventure and wonder to recommend this almost poetic epic. Nice to see Reynolds knows more than one way to astonish. And how could I ever have doubted him?
