After her apprenticeship was done and a place in the guild of villains secured, Tori's life was supposed to get simpler. Unfortunately, a poorly timed errand sees Tori caught in the debut of a new team of capes, one wearing an all-too-familiar name.

This secret scheme will not only endanger Tori, her friends, and the guild, but the very world itself.

I enjoyed the first book in this series. This second installment was even better. Great character development. Interesting new characters. Captivating plot. If you enjoyed the first one, you will definitely enjoy this one.

Great book

Much like the first book in the series, the story is simple and predictable. But also like the first book, in the second book it is the interaction between the characters that makes it worth the listen. There are a lot of people keeping other people's secrets, questions of loyalty and how you decide what tribe is your tribe. There is enough action to keep the plot moving, but the character interaction in the face of the dangers makes it worth the listen.

There is a guild of superheroes that protect that world and a guild of super villains that sort of protect the world in a much more violent and less honorable way.

The performance by Amy Landon is passable. She does an excellent job with description and women's voices but most of her young men voices sound like the same surfer bro. The voices she gives to older male characters are more distinctive, but there are less of them.

While this book mostly stands alone, I feel you would be missing a lot of context if you had not read the first book. Although I am glad the author doesn't rehash the first book, if there are past events you find interesting, go read the first book. It does set up the premise for the next book without being a cliff hanger which is nice.
