Description

As development and subsequent habitat destruction accelerate, there are increasing pressures on wildlife populations. But there is an important and simple step toward reversing this alarming trend: Everyone with access to a patch of earth can make a significant contribution toward sustaining biodiversity.

There is an unbreakable link between native plant species and native wildlife - native insects cannot, or will not, eat alien plants. When native plants disappear, the insects disappear, impoverishing the food source for birds and other animals. In many parts of the world, habitat destruction has been so extensive that local wildlife is in crisis and may be headed toward extinction.

Bringing Nature Home has sparked a national conversation about the link between healthy local ecosystems and human well-being, and this audio edition will help broaden the movement. By acting on Douglas Tallamy's practical recommendations, everyone can make a difference.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

Life changing

I found this book to be life changing. I ripped most plants out (except mature trees) and we are going with all natives. A lot of species noted are from the East, however he does provides a website where you can search for native plants in your area. The website indicates which plants are most valuable to wildlife.

A Moral Guide to Gardening

Written in a down to earth style by person who really knows what he's talking about. Bought the book after listening so that I could congitate over the ideas presented . I think of it as a prequel to his latest book.

This Is What Has Been Missing In American Gardens

Doug Tallamy explains what has been missing in American gardening for decades. The concept is so incredibly simple that we have missed it! Using native plants to feed and nurture native species becomes common sense once again, thanks to the work of Mr. Tallamy.

The only issue with the audible edition is that the narrator does not properly pronounce one of the most used words in the book - species. Prepare yourself now to listen to species pronounced as "spee-SHEES" for what seems like a million times!

Even with that, the content of the book is a must for conscientious gardeners. Mr. Tallamy's insight and instruction will help you to develop a practical solution to garden design that benefits everyone and everything that visits.

Inspiring and Informational

I had read the first edition in its print form, and this was a great review that included some new information. I plan to incorporate even more native plants into my small urban garden.

I don’t think the author knew who his audience would be

If a person really wants to use this book, a print version would be necessary to be able to research the plants. As far an audio book, pointless. If you enjoy listening to Latin and have no background in the Latin, you will love this book. If you don’t enjoy listening to the endless lists of Latin words be read...then you may prefer the book version.

This book could have been better. It is good to understand what the author is explaining about the need for yards that support native plants which supports wildlife: bugs that get eaten by birds, bats and on up the food chain. BUT he is so impractical, that I felt like throwing up my hands and say, “ I give up!”.

I think he wrote this book for landscape designers. Not the average homeowner.

Tallamy makes a compelling case for why it is helpful to plant native species.
