In After the Ecstasy, the Laundry, Jack Kornfield brings into focus the truth about satori, the awakened state of consciousness, and enlightenment practices today. The result is this extraordinary look at the hard work we all must do - the laundry - no matter how often we experience ecstatic states of consciousness through meditation and other disciplines.

Histoire
Speaking to an audience of Western students, the Dalai Lama shows us how to apply basic Buddhist principles to our day-to-day lives. Starting with the very foundation of Buddhism, the Four Noble Truths, he provides the framework for understanding the Buddha’s first teachings on suffering, happiness, and peace. He follows with commentary on two of Buddhism’s most profound texts: The Eight Verses on Training the Mind and Atisha’s Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment, often referring to the former as one of his main sources of inspiration for the practice of compassion.

Histoire
The so-called Tibetan Book of the Dead has been renowned for centuries as a cornerstone of Buddhist wisdom and religious thought. More recently, it has become highly influential in the Western world for its psychological insights into the processes of death and dying - and what they can teach us about the ways we live our lives. It has also been found to be helpful in the grieving process by people who have recently lost their loved ones. This authoritative translation preserves the form and spirit of the original and was prepared especially for Western audiences.

Excellent listen
I think it was an interesting idea to use a seminar as a “book”. It’s instructional. It’s “live”and a real performance so you’ll hear an occasional sneeze and cough. There’s laughter from the audience at the sometimes dry humor. But it’s fun. I enjoyed this. It wasn’t what I expected for sure. I will listen to it again, as I am new, and researching Buddhism.
Kornfield’s calming voice is quite like Mr. Rogers……so if you’re at least 50, you’ll know who I am speaking of. There’s a lot in this book to get you’re head wrapped around. Speaking kindly/nicely, resisting greed and senseless ownership of possessions. Prayer/meditation, kindness towards others and animals and the earth. Accepting things as they are-it is what it is. Being a positive motivator. He goes on and on.
Thank you David for a great read and retreat. Peace.
