À propos de cet audio

Jessie Black's successful prosecution of a serial murderer and rapist put her on the path to stardom at the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office. Public defender Jack Ackerman represented the opposition, and his spectacular public breakdown after the trial put him in a mental institution and gave Frank Ramsey a second chance at freedom.

When Ramsey petitions the court for a new trial with a claim that Ackerman was ineffective, Black must step up to defend him. To keep a convicted killer off the streets, she'll need to prove Ackerman's sanity - a fact she's far from sure of. As she prepares for trial, powerful forces conspire to put Ramsey back on the streets.

Black has one chance to keep Ramsey behind bars, and it'll be the toughest fight of her career.

The legal wrangling & in-trial verbal combat in this Larry A. Winters story is peerless. Philadelphia prosecutor Jessie Black (along with protegé Elliot Williams) finds herself having to relitigate the conviction of a violent murderer-rapist in a hyperrealistic "in-the-courtroom" tale. Winter gets pretty deep into the weeds of legal reasoning/precedent at times (paralegal-styled briefing information) and a couple of aspects of lawyer/judge behaviors are implausible.. but he delivers the narrative with capable vocabulary/prose and an enjoyable true-to-life style.
Where the author most falls short is in the exploration of his protagonist's personal life (love life, relationship with Dad, friendships, etc.). He is just a touch heavy-handed in his scripting.

As to presentation: Reader Xe Sands turns in one of the better performances that I have heard from her. Even her voice-acting - usually one of the weaker elements in her skillset - is impressive.

Altogether, 'Burnout' is a 9/10-star first installment in the 'Jessie Black Legal Thriller Series'. I am sad to see that it’s leaving the 'Plus' menu because I wouldn't have tried it otherwise. It's actually worth a Credit.
