Description
Society's eligible women are in mourning. Lord Peter Wimsey has married at last, having finally succeeded in his ardent pursuit of the lovely mystery novelist Harriet Vane. The two depart for a tranquil honeymoon in a country farmhouse but find, instead of a well-prepared love nest, the place left in a shambles by the previous owner. His sudden appearance, dead from a broken skull in the cellar, only prompts more questions.
Why would anyone have wanted to kill old Mr. Noakes? What dark secrets had he to hide?
The honeymoon is over, as Lord Peter and Harriet Vane start their investigations. Suspicion is rife, and everyone seems to have something to hide, from the local constable to the housekeeper. Wimsey and his wife can think of plenty of theories, but it's not until they discover a vital fact that the identity of the murderer becomes clear.

Good performance ok story
Ian Carmichael is good as the narrator. Stories are of variable quality as is typical with short stories but overall good.

Sir Peter Wimsey reads Sir Peter Wimsey!
One well “into” the era, and the cadence of Ian Carmichael’s speech, I found it a wonderful use of the source material. Sayers never fails.

Marvellous 
Another brilliant mystery/love story by Dorothy Sayers. No matter how many times I read or hear her books, they are fresh,  beautifully written, compelling, with delightful touches of humor, and apt literary references. All of it, the richer for a fine performance.

Boring
Having read several Lord Peter Wimsey books, I have to say this is extremely disappointing. The prologue in the beginning was very dull. The story did not progress, I wanted to give up on the lots of times it by the time I got to what's listed as chapter 6, I just thought what a waste of time it was. I'm going to another book. glad I didn't pay money for this. On another note -the recording is very quiet, even at full volume it's hard to hear.
I did give this one a second try 6 months later, after reading a summary of it on Google, and better understood it - got to chapter 13- I don't know how I stuck it that long! But I gave up again, too boring. My girlfriend said she'd seen the TV show and the ending was very good. so I moved on to chapter 19 and listened to it and chapter 20. It did have a surprise ending. But I can hardly recommend the book
