Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it. Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things. But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them? Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated. Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

Call Me by Your Name first swept across the world in 2007. It is the story of a sudden and powerful romance that blossoms between an adolescent boy and a summer guest at his parents' cliffside mansion on the Italian Riviera. During the restless summer weeks, unrelenting but buried currents of obsession, fascination, and desire intensify their passion as they test the charged ground between them and verge toward the one thing both already fear they may never truly find again: total intimacy. André Aciman's critically acclaimed debut novel is a frank, unsentimental, heartrending elegy to human passion.
More praise for Call Me By Your Name:
"Hammer’s soft, velvety voice lends itself perfectly to the story and its Italian setting. While you might think this one isn’t worth a listen if you’ve already seen the movie or read the book, many reviewers say it is still worth taking in even if you know the story - some even say it’s worth listening to more than once." (AskMen)
Ce que les critiques en disent

Armie Hammer’s voice 🥰😍😜
After watching the movie, I just knew I needed to read the book so I went to Amazon and saw I could listen to it for freee. Honestly this book was amazing and the fact that Armie Hammer narrated it was even better. Usually I’m not a fan of reading books after watching the film adaptation but this one is definitely worth it.

I was not engaged.
Full disclosure, I've only made it an hour in. Maybe there are fragments of plot somewhere in the next 6 hours but I'm not compelled to find out with our POV character.
This is some teenager who wants to get banged by a summer house guest. The driving force is will he or won't he get banged. This is a reason to read erotic literature- but I feel like the author is trying to be something more and I find that irksome.
I wasn't looking to read erotica (though I'm not against the genre) I was looking for an engaging character piece. You don't make those without establishing strong identities of your characters- so we can see the character bend and break to things happening to them. I get the protagonist has issues embracing his sexuality, but we don't get the context. What is it about this academic Jewish family that stifles his sexuality. The protagonist's thoughts of getting laid occupy that space where we might understand and sympathize with him.
Perhaps I'm just impatient and there is a great story just around the bend- but I'll never get there.
I just finished reading Dante and Aristotle discover the secrets of the universe and was hungry for more. I'll have to keep looking.

art imitates life imitates art
Here is the incredible story of a true love, one that begins with all the angst of youth, that wounds you with it's bittersweet denial, that can't refuse itself despite the practical inner voice... the pain and the ecstasy. This book will tear your heart open, and leave you smiling through the tears, as it beats in the sunshine.
Armie Hammer delivers an exquisite performance, one even more poingant when considering this novel is in the voice of Elio, while in the film adaptation Hammer plays Oliver; speaking not only Elio's name, but his very soul.

This explained a lot more than the movie did!!
A few parts in the movie I was confused and wondering how they would go from one point to another. The book goes into detail about everything that we missed! I love that it was read by armie hammer, it gave more of a personality. Like Oliver himself was reading it. I loved it so much I will definitely be listening again, can’t wait to listen to find me:))

A touch of summer
It’s beautiful how Armie Hammer’s voice as it reads these beautiful words can make time flies and bring you to Italy, to sunlight, into the sort of evocative transe only beautiful stories can conjure up. I have read this book but to hear it is something else. I understood it better, it touched me, all its subtleties laid bare in sounds for my ear to find. It was so, so beautiful!

Superb and heartbreaking
Everything was perfect. So moving, so brilliant, poetic and vivid... it was exactly what I expected from this book and from Hammer's voice. Stunning.

Rip my heart out, why don't you?
Reviewing books is always tricky because I always ask myself "where do I begin" and "how do I translate my emotions into words after so many words anyway?" I'm ashamed it took me so long to start "Call Me By Your Name" and now that I've finished it I want to listen to it again immediatly. On the other hand, I'm really not sure my heart could handle being shattered by all of the gorgeous evocative sentences one more time. I don't think the story needs much introducing by now, so all I'll say is that this is one of the most beautiful books I've read in my entire life. Armie Hammer's voice couldn't have been more magnetic if it could, and he served André Aciman's poetic prose beautifully. "You'll kill me if you stop." Don't stop. Or do. Yup, that's exactly it.

Just a wonderful time
I read the book last summer and I already fell in love with it. But listening to Armie Hammer's voice is like a sweet dream. He gives so much emotions to the story, that you could spend the day listening to him. It is superb.

A Very Relevant Complement to the Movie
Though certainly not earth-shattering, this novel is incomparably superior to the movie made in 2017.
This, for many reasons:
- the novel is entirely narrated from Elio’s point of view, what provides coherence to the plot while maintaining mystery around Oliver;
- the epilogue is much more detailed, and the very essence of the conclusion is different from the movie’s, the novel ending with the work’s title and giving it true meaning;
- what Elio describes as the « best night in his life » in the novel is completely absent from the movie!
- there is no mumble-jumble of languages in the written work and although the novel was written in English, everyone is understood to be habitually speaking Italian.
Given the author’s biography and the fact he identifies the novel’s location only with the initial B, it can be interpreted as autobiographical. No doubt, with embellishments were made as many details appear highly unrealistic.
Those who have seen the movie will benefit greatly from the novel. Those who have not may abstain without great loss.

Now one of my favourites novels
Aciman plays with words so naturally it is a pleasure to read him. And listening to Hammer's voice is like drinking a good warm chai tea latte.

Crying in public
That’s what the ending of this book had me doing. Crying in the middle of a restaurant, and immediately on the last words as read by Armie Hammer, rewinding to hear the last few minutes all over again. Then I wrote a love poem to my husband. Great book! Great performance.

Equal parts beautiful and heartbreaking
This story is both beautiful and heartbreaking. “Call Me By Your Name” is one of the most incredible novels to have ever written. This love story about Elio and Oliver will touch your heart and then break it into a million pieces. This is one of those novels and stories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. “Call Me By Your Name” is not only a brilliant masterpiece of LGBT literature, but it is also one of the greatest romance and coming of age stories to ever be written.

Masterful!
André Aciman has written a masterpiece in Call Me By Your Name. The ease of voice and the effortless flow of words through Elio’s point of view is exquisite. The exploration and journey of finding yourself and of sexual awakening, together with a sort of lust, makes this story even more relatable as we’ve all had unattainable crushes we wish would become something more. Now onto Armie Hammer’s magnificent performance. He nails the narration in CMBY and really encamptures the listener’s attention all throughout the story. Armie has a sort of non-chalantness to his voice that almost feels like he was born to read this story. All in all, with the masterful writing of Aciman and the beautiful narration by Hammer, this book deserves all of the praise and more.

Profound sensuality~
An absolutely beautiful, daring and complex novel! Aciman's economy of style is at once direct and poetic. He handles a controversial subject with such sensitivity, frankness and unabashed romanticism that swoons at every turn. Armie Hammer's rich baritone, and elegant reading is superb. I will return to this again and again.

You’ll loose yourself to the nostalgia of your own first love as you listen to Armie Hammer narrate this fantastic and so often poetic book.

Beautiful story
I’m not sure how I feel about this book. On one hand, I was totally mesmerized and deeply engrossed in it. On the other hand, I was a little bored, frustrated and confused. I guess that just makes it more like a real obsessive relationship. Elio is not in love with Oliver, he is obsessed and obsessive. Most of the story is Elio’s stream of consciousness, there is surprisingly little dialogue between the characters. Elio thinks one thing and then changes course and thinks the opposite. I found it frustrating to only have the story come from his extremely narrow voice. The timeline of the story didn’t make sense- they ignore each other for 2 weeks (according to Elio) and spend many, many days not talking but yet they have time in Oliver’s 6 weeks there to form this bond? This book is not an ode to first love, it’s an ode to crazy obsessions. There were a few passages that were pretty graphic and really cemented the idea that this love wasn’t the healthiest.
But can we all talk about how incredible, absolutely beautifully Armie Hammer read this?? His voice is so rhythmic, melodic, hypnotizing. I could feel Elio’s bitterness, surprise, feigned nonchalance, deep spiraling into Oliver. Armie couldn’t have done anything else to make it a better performance.
I’m definitely seeing this movie!

I must be missing something
I wanted to love this book. I wanted to experience all that the other reviewers had experienced. Instead I found myself waiting for something to happen or to be deeply touched by something. The time wasted by the main characters is annoying and frustrating. The time spent listening to the book leaves me confused as to what I just spent so long listening to..... and why I spent that long listening.

Stunning and deep dive into infatuation
This story has Virginia Woolf's stream of consciousness and Walt Whitman's sensuality combined in what is probably the most beautiful book I've read this year.
