Description

A Warhammer 40,000 novel

Saint Celestine is one of the greatest heroes of the Dark Imperium, an immortal warrior who returns time and again, even when struck down by a foe, like the Emperor's avenging angel. But what happens when she dies and comes back? Prepare to find out.

Listen to it because
Andy Clark lays bare one of the greatest mysteries of Warhammer 40,000: the trials Saint Celestine must undergo in order to return from death....

The story
With her mighty wings spread wide and Ardent Blade aflame, Saint Celestine is the living embodiment of the God-Emperor’s wrath. Her halo blazes like a star upon the smog-wreathed, blood-soaked battlefields of the 41st Millennium; its holy light leading the faithful to victory time and time again. As heretics and daemons tear at her flesh, she calls down fires of retribution from on high to smite the wicked and unrighteous.

If she is to fall in battle, none should mourn as she is Celestine, the Living Saint, and death is her duty. Though it comes at a great cost. For each time she is slain, Saint Celestine finds herself trapped in a terrible realm of suffering and torment. There her faith in the God-Emperor will be put to the test so she may prove herself worthy of life once more.

One of the Best 40K Stories I've Ever Listened To

I've been listening to a lot of 40k stories on Audible over the last couple years. "Celestine" is easily 8ne of the best. Andy Clark's take on Saint Celestine's presence on and off the battlefield is nearly perfect, and his portrayal of what she goes through between each "rebirth" is quite interesting. Emma Gregory's narration is also next to sublime. Her portrayal of the Living Saint was already perfect in the audio drama "Our Martyred Lady", and she only continues it here alongside additional supporting characters, all wonderfully voiced by her. If you enjoy the traditional, dirty, "down in the battlefield" portrayal of Warhammer 40k, mixed with some more ethereal/dream-like segmenta, I cannot reccomend this audiobook enough. If it wasn't for work, I could have easily sat down for 7+ hours and listened to the entire book from start to finish.

I rather enjoyed it

I listened to it, having never listened to a GW audio book. and I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the story. the narrator did a great job adding to character voices with accents. it was immersive the way it was read. I rather enjoyed it.

Good overall

I enjoyed it overall, but the "beyond" sequences can slow down the pace. Worth a listen, but I don't see myself listening to it again.

By the Emperor that was good!

Really changed what I thought the St was, her character was real and so was the heresy going on. Taking place seemingly right after the fall of Cadia I recommend reading Cadia Stands before this one for the full effect of hope that she brings. Excellent voice acting she was good at sounding like a dude for the male characters.

covers an important aspect but a little bland

I loved Emma Gregory's voice but one of the two stories wasn't too exciting. However you should read it if you want to know more about celestine herself. You aren't missing out too much skipping this book

It was moving.

It was a great work of literature. this was the first time a book brought me to tears, I do not know what it was but I became aware that tears started flowing down my face, after an hour listening to the audio book. Great writing and a stunning performance by Emma Gregory.

Great Story and Narration

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, it even brought tears to my eyes at some points. This is the first audio book I've heard Emma narrate and I'm very impressed by it. Each character had their own voice and wasn't monotone like some books I've heard in the past.

A fascinating and powerful story

I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The narrator was clear and well-spoken, with an appreciable range of voices to distinguish most characters. The story was a fascinating look into one of the most prominent characters in the setting, with plenty of attention given to other characters to show how the Living Saint impacted them. I would highly recommend giving this one a listen.

Story goes nowhere and has no depth

This was a struggle to finish. The story has the content of a novella but is lengthened to a full novel without adding any substance. Ended the book knowing as little about the Sisters of Battle as I did when I started. Not recommended.

Finally lore about the premiere living saint. But..

It was a treat to finally hear about the living saint and finally get the lore and implied lore through her eyes. The fight/battle scenes were okay a lot could have been better. However the climax of the story was super disappointing considering her past achievements (poor pay off). Worth your time!

A Breath of Fresh Air

Celestine the living saints combines both a unique perspective on the duties and suffering of the saint herself as well as the faith and heroism she inspires. coming from somebody who almost exclusively plays the model game this book puts some humanity towards the force of nature that is saint Celestine while simultaneously exploring some of the worst aspects of the Adeptus Minastorum. The constant twists and turns invoke the suspicion and mistrust that is pervasive in the setting in the reader, while the detailed account of her reanimation process invokes both feelings of sympathy and awe for the living saint.

An introspective into the trials of the Saint

An excellent and informative view into the figure of imperial legend, this covered more than just another war, it gives a definitive first person view of the burdens and powers of Saint Celestine. if you ever had questions about the her, this will help answer those questions. Expertly portrayed by the Narrator, this book brought me closer to the character than I expected.
