I read The Sparrow, but used Audible for Children of God.
As a Science minded person who is very skeptical of religious themes and stories I found that Mary Doria Russel masterfully merged religion and faith into a Science Fiction story.
Anna Fields' narration was clear and precise. Her ability to narrate with several accents made it easy to follow each character's dialog.
I enjoyed this Audible book very much

Great end to a great story

Oh. My period Lord! This is an amazing story it’s complex and captivating. So many different threads but all gathered together at the very end and to a picture of beauty. The reader shifts from accent to accent, character to character, flawlessly. I knew the author was good but I hadn’t realize just how good. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes complex stories, believable characters, what if’s, and just damn fine writing.

Alongside the Sparrow, this book is perhaps the best theodicy I have ever read. The characters, world, and narrative are gripping and believable, and draw you into the deep questions being asked about the nature of God and life. And the author doesn't stoop to trite answers or pretend that there's only one reasonable way to address the problem of evil. You have to be able to stomach somewhat graphic descriptions of violence, including sexual violence, but if you can I highly recommend this book.
