The two brave men knew the risks involved, so they recruited an equally fearless team: Italian resistance fighters, escaped POWs, downed US airmen, even a bagpipe-playing Scotsman known as "The Mad Piper." Some had little military training, but all were willing to fight to the death to defeat the Nazi enemy. Ultimately, the mission that began in broad daylight, in the enemy's line of fire, would end one of the darkest chapters in history - through the courage and conviction of the unsung heroes who dared the impossible....

And dat ya can take to da Bank!
As my old Dad used to say when he gave something an A+: "And dat ya can take to da Bank!" I know how hard it is to do narration. Being a drummer/singer when I was younger, I tried it.(It was TOO hard for me!) It's magic when you hit on the ideal narrator. Matt Bates makes Damien Lewis' great writing even better. Just the perfect voice for this story. I have loved behind enemy lines stories of courage & ingenuity since grade 7-8! Love WWII History. These guys were, for the most part volunteers. What they endured and accomplished is an amazing story. The motley crew involved will surprise you. I lay in bed in the dark listening and could not stop listening every night. I couldn't wait to hear what would happen next! Of course I had to back it up a few chapters in the am, because I had conked out at some point!(Ha! Ha!). Anyway what I am saying, is a Damien Lewis Book, or Listen is a sure thing! Can't recommend any higher. A++ on all counts. I will seek out other listens which are narrated by Matt Bates for sure. Other great listens you might check out are Warriors by Ross Kemp; Raiders by Ross Kemp; Jungle Soldier(The True Story of Freddy Spenser Chapman) by Brian Moynahan & They Fought Alone by Charles Glass. - Ron Larocque.
