Wow! This was a great biography. There is so much more to this book than New York, as he talks about his time in Rome, Venice, Paris and San Francisco. Great insights into early gay culture, the shock of the emergence of AIDS and the losses, not just of friends, but of a way of life. Moving and well written. I wasn’t even familiar with Edmund White, but now I will seek out his books.
