Description

Remy Guidry doesn’t do relationships. He tried the marriage thing once, back in Louisiana, and learned the hard way that all he really needs in life is a cold beer, some good friends, and the occasional hookup. His job as a bodyguard with McKay-Taggart gives him purpose and lovely perks, like access to Sanctum. The last thing he needs in his life is a woman with stars in her eyes and babies in her future.

Lisa Daley’s life is going in the right direction. She has graduated from college after years of putting herself through school. She’s got a new job at an accounting firm and she’s finished her Sanctum training. Finally on her own and having fun, her life seems pretty perfect. Except she’s lonely and the one man she wants won’t give her a second look.

There is one other little glitch. Apparently, her new firm is really a front for the mob and now they want her dead. Assassins can really ruin a fun girls’ night out. Suddenly strapped to the very same six-foot-five-inch hunk of a bodyguard who makes her heart pound, Lisa can’t decide if this situation is a blessing or a curse.

As the mob closes in, Remy takes his tempting new charge back to the safest place he knows - his home in the bayou. Surrounded by his past, he can’t help wondering if Lisa is his future. To answer that question, he just has to keep her alive.

Suspense and some comedy

What can I say? I loved Remy, and having seem his, um, popular ways in other books, you knew he was fighting too hard. Lisa was so sweet, and so saucy, that it was easy to see she was the baby of the family. She fought so hard against everyone solving all her problems, and her family so wanted to look after her, they missed the woman she was. Lots of misunderstandings here, but no real drama. You always knew it was going to work out, right from the get-go, so seeing how these two caused their own trouble wasn’t a surprise

Now, about that bad guy, who really wasn’t, where can I get more of him? #moreItalianhitmanplease

A long predictable story with great characters

For fans of the series, a large number of McKay Taggert people put in an appearance in this story as the heroine is family to several Sanctum members and the hero is one of the regulars. This book did have it’s share of repetitive self analysis and character self doubt. Interesting backdrops though. The main story was completely predictable and sadly there were numerous relationship spoilers unless you read all the ebooks in order because not all the books have been done one audible yet. This is very annoying and while I have purchased some rather than books to read rather than wait for the audibles, I find I prefer listening to these - Ian is especially entertaining while sitting in traffic. Also I really wish there were dual or duet performances in narration- though Ryan West usually does a pretty good job. Looking forward to the audio versions stories for some of the couples mentioned and hope it won’t be too long.

Typical Masters and Mercenaries adventure!

I may have said typical but, they are all pretty awesome, so typical is a good thing. This is how the story goes...Hero avoids the Heroine because he doesn’t think he is good enough for her. Hero is assigned to be Heroine’s bodyguard and they get to know each other and fall into bed and then into love. Hero does and says some stupid things to Heroine and her broken heart can’t seem to heal. Tragedy hits and Heroine almost loses Hero. Due to this, she forgives him and they live HEA. Now, mixed up in this is some hot BDSM sex, a bitchy ex that causes issues, a mystery is solve and the bad guy is caught, Big Tag says a lot of inappropriate things and family and friends work together to make the world a better place. What’s not to love? Spend the credit, you won’t regret it.

I’m in love with the town of Papillon!

A sexy Cajun bodyguard with a soul of a poet is the perfect hero for this spin off story from Lexi Blake’s Masters and Mercenaries series. This story has just the right mix of fun and suspense and Lisa is a girl after my own heart. I’d be ready for a throw down too after a couple of glasses of homemade strawberry wine 🍷!

I always love listening to Ryan West narrate a book. His performance allows me to get lost in the story every time.

Ok read

Oops, picked this book after finishing book #1 in Butterfly Bayou series (it had same characters but theyre from different collections).
Must admit i preferred Butterfly Bayou #1 book as story had more romance/ intrigue and no Dom/sub to pad out like this Close Cover book had.
Narration was really good though.

Remy left a lot to be desired.

Romance is meant to endear you to the heroine while making you route for hero. I just couldn't route for Remy at all. He lied, took her for granted, and just wasn't a respectable hero.

In this I really liked Lisa... At least initially. I liked that she wasn't afraid to go after what she wanted. She didn't crumble after losing her job. She was strong and did her best to continue to support herself despite her family being wealthy. She also showed bravery asking Remy to scene with her... He shot her down pretty brutally but Lisa maintained her dignity.

But hearing Remy had scened with every other single woman in the club & how he continued to sleep around all while avoiding Lisa because he thought she was rich... Yeah, that's a great reason to embarrass her. He was selfish, wanted to sew his wild oats, but he wouldn't let any other man look her way or he growls and becomes defensive... How the heck is that fair????

He turned down the heroine for a date and continued to sleep around... He didn't even choose to pursue Lisa... He got a job and that was what put her in his orbit. He came back into her life lying about why he was there. There was no character growth showing his regret and how he changes into a great man... No mostly he was a selfish jerk who used a bunch of excuses and ignored everyone else's feelings.

Usually? I love Lexi Blake's heros. This one? I felt so horrible and embarrassed for poor Lisa.

Please stop normalizing this type of behavior. Make your heroines strong enough to not fall prey to good looks and libido... Doormat heroine's who let the man sleep around and are willing to settle for his interest only after he's slept with literally every other option? How the heck is that suppose to be attractive? I mean seriously. The more I think on it the more it disturbs me that anyone thinks the behavior is okay/normal.
