In the present day, in a library in Idaho, octogenarian Zeno rehearses children in a play adaptation of Aethon’s story, preserved against all odds through centuries. Tucked among the library shelves is a bomb, planted by a troubled, idealistic teenager, Seymour. This is another siege.

And in a not-so-distant future, on the interstellar ship Argos, Konstance is alone in a vault, copying on scraps of sacking the story of Aethon, told to her by her father.

Anna, Omeir, Seymour, Zeno, and Konstance are dreamers and outsiders whose lives are gloriously intertwined. I did not want this book to end and had tears in my eyes when it did. So moving and thought-provoking and magical. A modern-day epic masterpiece. Deep gratitude to my daughter for the recommendation and now I hope to convince my book club to read it. EVERYONE SHOULD. Thank you, Anthony Doerr!

Beautiful and haunting. this may be one of my favorite books of all time. Twisting through time and place this novel is a true masterpiece.

I can't express how much I enjoyed this book.

Many complain the story is initially difficult to follow. It is not even though it jumps centuries. All time lines and each main character is intricately connected to a lost badly damaged story book.
The narration is excellent. The story is part philosophy, part romance, part historical and partially science fiction. There is something for everyone.
