À propos de cet audio
Phillip I. Elkins, also known as Señor Felipe, is a Vietnam veteran, storyteller, salsa maker, father, son, educator, author, musician, and radio host of LA Sounds on KZFR, 90.1, Chico, California. Having survived Vietnam (des-cribed in his book My Year in Vietnam) Phil thinks his life will be a cakewalk. It turns out to be anything but. Coming Home from the War in Vietnam tells of the complexities of postwar life. For the next several years Elkins doesn’t talk about or even tell many people he’s a Vietnam Veteran, but he wears his Army fatigue jacket everywhere he goes, including to protest marches against the war. Phil travels in in search of himself in America, Europe, and Israel and is diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), which leads to multiple failed relationships and marriages. As a single dad, he raises five children while struggling to make a living.
At the conclusion of this book, he shares his insights from those experiences and advises, "Never give up."
