Amy McFadden did an incredible job making the characters come to life. From every small exaggeration to the intense and emotional moments, I felt so incapsulated in the words. I usually don’t listen to audiobooks while I drive, but this one I couldn’t stop listening to. Every moment I had to relax and listen I took it. Usually my attention span doesn’t allow me more than 20 minutes, but there was just something about the story, characters, plot, climax, and ending that kept me listening. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys anticipation, friendship, sci-fi, the unknown, and most importantly learning secrets.

If any of you have been around long enough to recall the movie 'The Breakfast Club', amongst the cast members was Ally Sheedy. The reason I refer to this ancient history is that way back then I found her voice so annoying that it negatively affected my appreciation of what was a pretty good movie and, during ensuing decades, I could not bear to watch anything in which Ms. Sheedy appeared since I found her voice to be so grating. I mention this because, much to my chagrin, Amy McFadden is an Ally Sheedy vocal twin - inflections, pacing, tones and all. So, after about two hours of this irksome pain to my ears, I had to stop listening to the book. Had the story line been worth the auditory torture, I may have continued listening; however, it is more YA than adult and, therefore, not what I expected and an overall disappointment.

Oh, that voice... that annoying voice!
