À propos de cet audio

Cotton Crossing was a dead end, but not for Ginny Mills. She's just marking time, getting experience in the county library system, before moving back to a decent urban environment. Then the phones stop working.

Lee Quartine knows there's no way the pretty girl at the library will even look at him. Especially since he can't open his mouth. He knows he's a hick, but when the power starts going out and the woods are full of strange creatures, it's good to have someone around who can build a fire. And kill.

Ginny, Lee, and their small band of survivors can't stay put, and moving is dangerous. The infected are shambling in the hills and the concrete canyons of cities.

It's gonna be a long trip...

This Lillith Saintcrow story starts glacially slow.. but eventually evolves into a satisfyingly creepy - albeit still pretty plodding - post-apocalyptic Zombie Virus survival narrative. Saintcrow focuses on 'Virginia "Ginny" Mills' - a big-city explant working at a small-town public library - and 'Lee Quartine' a stereotypical "Prepper" type with a crush on her & a bit of a hero complex. The story is relatively well-written and does an admirable job exploring the origins of the epidemic.. but Saintcrow's clichéed dialogue, cookie-cutter characters, and undead fiction tropes overwhelm what could have been a top-notch romp. I also found that Saintcrow struggles with pacing in this first book of a series - describing horrible events seen on the news in the cities but depicting life-as-usual in small-town America for far too long (exceedingly realistic, imo, but pretty boring.. I mean car repairs, county fairs, and casual dating among the townsfolk for hour after hour before the neighbors finally start turning). The book is a pretty standard entry in the Zombie Fiction library.

The narration from Erin deWard is similarly "adequate". To be certain, deWard delivers a solid performance (perhaps a bit breathy).. but nothing that any professional in Tantor Audio Inc's stable of readers couldn't have provided.

In toto, 'Cotton Crossing' merits 6 stars out of 10. As the genre goes, the book is a Middling offering. Even if it was persistently free, I wouldn't be continuing with the 'Roadtrip Z' series (it just didn't grab me).
As it's leaving the 'Plus' menu, the decision is easy: keep browsing.

[Note: the author's striking obsession with the smell of female characters' shampoo is odd]

Serviceable ZA Tale

This series makes you feel like you are part of the group. All of the characters are very unique. you will not feel sleepy when reading this series. There are some really funny parts too. The Narrator Erin DeWard was amazing.

I have read several Zombie series and this one is now in my top 3. Lilith Saintcrow is an amazing Author. I finished book 4 yesterday and I already miss the characters.

Great series

I loved every second of this book. The plot, character development, descriptions, back stories, everything. the narration was perfection. Everything pronounced correctly, flow and timing on point, expression, different voices; seamless. I got the rest of the available books before the first on was even done and checked out a few others by the fabulous narrator, Erin deWard. l would listen to this book again in a heartbeat, it's a perfect storm of story telling and narration that made it impossible to sleep because i had to know what happened next. i know beyond a shadow of a doubt this will be one of those series that will leave me feeling bereft and constantly thinking about it when its done. if you are into extremely well written and perfectly narrated zombie books this one is highly recommended. But, in the end that is just my humble opinion. also i picked this book up on a whim i wasn't given a copy or any inventive to review it i just figure if I'm going to write why i don't like some books i had. better write why i loved others.

There is no bad with this book

I liked the author's storytelling style so much, I bought two books ( not in this road trip z series), and will listen to the others in this series. It is quite graphic sometimes, but not out of place to the context. The characters' arcs are realistic and have depth. I was sorry when it ended... but looking forward to the next in the series

interesting female lead

Didn’t do a great job setting up the characters. Spent most of the time describing how beautiful the one girl was. Pretty boring.

Meh
