When I found myself facing down the scariest black-magic felon in the city, practically daring him to abduct me, I had to wonder exactly how I ended up here.

It all started when I accidentally landed a job as a bartender - but not at a bar. At a guild, populated by mages, sorcerers, alchemists, witches, and psychics. Good thing this lame-o human is adaptable, right?

Then my favorite guild members - three sexy, powerful, and intermittently charming mages - asked for my help. Did they want access to my encyclopedic knowledge of cocktails? Oh no. They wanted to wrap me up in a pretty ribbon and plunk me in the crosshairs of a murderous rogue to lure him out of hiding.

So that's what we did. And that's why I'm here. About to be kidnapped. Oh, and our grand plan for safely capturing said murderous rogue? Yeah, that completely fell apart about two minutes ago. Why did I agree to this again?

I love this series! Cris is my favorite reader. I am listening to the whole series again and Aaron is still by far my favorite mage. I'd say if you like Harry Potter you'll love this

Couldn't stop listening. This series is so much fun. I listened to this book all in one go. I love the author's characters and the quirkiness of the world. She blends steam and humour well. Definately worth the binge read/listen.

I think the narrator is getting more into the book, she was good last time and better for this one! I love Tori's sass with her own team, and it's even better with the bad guys. Think Buffy but better. Another sassy, fun, easy listen and yes I bought the next one again...

The story is growing on me as the author draws back the curtain a little on the mythos of the world. Voice actress/Narrator knocked it out of the park.

This book develops Tori a bit more and digs into where a lot of her angst that drives her comes from. She sets out on what she thinks is a redemption arc which was satisfying that the main character was more caught off guard by the twists the story takes.

Things that are really good about Tori:
She is trying to grow, even if she doesn't succeed.
She doesn't call herself "girl who doesn't get along with other girls" has friendships with both Sin and Sabrina.
Self aware of her damage and is trying to heal.

After this book I am totally hooked on the story.

I love thus wold Annette Marie has created. she brings a whole new world of magic and mystery to life in a city only a couple hour away from where I live.

Cris Dukehart does an amazing job narrating these stories. when I new one comes out I have to wait for it to come out on audio because it's just not the same without her voices for all the characters.

Tory gets her first dip into the world of dark arts and bad people. and of course by dip I mean she jumps in with both feet. I love the dynamic between her and the druid.

The first half of this book is just dragging on. Tori takes ages to understand what's going on with that evil evil mage (not evil enough to not flirt with him though). She devises ever more fictions to support her view point until grudgingly admitting the truth to herself. If Annette Marie would be capable of producing complex literature the reader could start imagining that Toris stories of her bad childhood where just fabrications of her to get attention, showing her other actions in a new light - but since the story is predictably shallow this is unlikely.

Also one star down for bad price / duration.
