À propos de cet audio

The best assassin in the world doesn’t come cheap. Betraying him will cost your soul.

The Hunter is a name feared by all in Voramis. He is an outcast, driven by a cursed dagger with an unquenchable thirst for blood and death.

Yet he follows one simple code: Kill those who truly deserve to die. His creed is put to the test when, deceived by a shadowy employer, he unknowingly slaughters an innocent man.

With the most powerful criminal organization in the city after his head, the Hunter must fight for his life and find a way to atone for his mistake. When his enemies harm the people under his protection, it will take much more than an army criminals to stand in the way of his revenge.

This is not normally my genre but as I had no credits left I listened. Very good storyline and plot- narration was excellent. Highly recommend but you have to listen to at least four chapters to get into it.

Unexpected gem

'The Hunter' is a powerful killer-for-hire armed with a sentient dagger named "Soulhunger" that demands blood and transfers power to him every time he takes a life. He is 'Kryptonite'-sensitive to *Iron*, but has a 'Deadpool'- or 'Wolverine'-like healing factor that makes him basically immortal. Andy Peloquin displays acceptable vocabulary/prose (he won't be winning any writing awards.. but knows his craft), mind's-eye vivid description, and great plotting.
Unfortunately, the author also exhibits awkward pacing (with loooong discussions of mundane worldbuilding elements/religiously-driven drama & action scenes over far too quickly), he objectifies women (all described females have "curves", "seductive voices", and unrealistic built-in promiscuity), and favors repulsive setting descriptions for some reason (someone needs to tell Peloquin that the smell of excrement everywhere is unnecessary to the plot).

On the positive side: great reading from Marc Vietor definitely improves the text. True, he takes occasional injudicious deep breaths that Podium Audio engineers struggle to minimize (maybe he's too close to the microphone at times?).. but setting playback speed at 1.10X helps with that annoying intrusion. Still, I recommend avoiding earbuds with this one (the speakers on your device/vehicle are a better listening option). All in all, if you are offered the choice between this recording and a text version, pick this one.

In toto, this iteration of 'Darkblade Assassin' rates 7.5 stars out of 10. I am grateful that I was able to get this audiobook as a 'Plus' selection, because it was a serviceable distraction for a couple of quiet afternoons. It may even be worth a Credit for fans of "decent" Fantasy stories - but I won't personally be continuing with the 'Hero Of Darkness' series.

MINOR SPOILER BELOW:

The Hunter eventually discovers that he is a Half-demon and embarks on an assigned mission to hunt down and destroy Demons that still inhabit the world. The series promises to be a graphically-violent/occasionally-sexually-explicit action-adventure thematically identical to the Marvel Comics 'Blade' storyline. It could easily captivate you more than it did me.

Fascinating Protagonist

I had low expectations for this book, trying to fill the void until my next credit. I was surprised by how well it was written. The description of smells and environment were vivid. I enjoyed this book and the narrator very much.

Surprisingly good

The story was alright but the main character is always almost dieing to somehow surviving. About half way in all auspense was lost as he always magically survives.

Always at deaths door

The story was well read and covered much ground. But, I expected more after listening to a collaborative series with this author. I found much storyline repeated in this book and also without depth. The character development across the fellows was as shallow as “good vs evil” and the cast was not diverse. It was predictable. The mysteries weren’t very mysterious. I couldn’t sustain enough interest bother finishing off the last 2 hours of the book.

Good, kinda, but…
