Good and Dark short stories

Benedict Ashforth is a contemporary writer who pens Gothic-feeling - almost Victorian - horror stories. The five on offer here are exemplary: timeless atmospheric ghost and macabre tales. A couple are quite run-of-the-mill, a couple are genuinely chilling, and all are well-conceived and capably written.

As to presentation: As in all collections with different readers for each story, the audiobook is hit & miss. I found a couple of readers to be over-the-top in *trying* to be scary - somewhat offputting - but other readers were genuinely praiseworthy.

Altogether, 'Darkest Past' is appropriately on the 'Plus' menu. The 5.5/10-star collection was a reasonable distraction for a quiet afternoon - offered in bite-sized ~30 minute chunks - but not worthy of a Credit if it leaves the "free with your subscription" catalog.
