Smart & Funny

This has been a hit and miss series for me, but I enjoyed this story very much. Marie & Matt are very likable characters, both are smart and funny and their relationship is a slow burn. There are check ins with other characters from the previous books which is always a nice touch. I would have enjoyed a little more from Matt’s POV, but overall a decent read.

Stand alone but should read others first

Most stand alone books in series briefly involve or reference previous characters. This book spends 1/2 time on the old characters and there are a lot of them. I felt it detracted from the story because there were so many players who I didn't know and didn't have investment in. The dialogue was prolonged in this way. Wanted more time with the main characters. Should read the other books first

superb!

Marie & Matt's heartfelt story, the news from the rest of the gang, the slow growth & burn, the permanent smile on my face, the anticipation, the truth, the sweetness, the sexiness, the cleverness of this book, the choice of Joy Nash as a narrator... Thank you, Mrs. Reid <3

An fun, enjoyable story sprinkled with strong characters with quirks.

A solid, well written story with an engaging plot, interesting and quirky characters whose issues do not end up being wearisome, repetitive or irritating. Rather it’s an engaging dance towards a happy ending. The narration is good. Overall a fun read - good enough to reread so that makes it well worth the credit.

Love Matt!

Great character! Not sure why this is labelled a standalone...you have to have listened to or read all the other books prior to to understand this one. Would definitely listen again. And, Marie...she really is that one friend who could almost be overlooked in all the other books...very endearing couple.

Love it!

Started the book realizing it was out of order...had to go back to Happily Ever Ninja. Penny you truly had me engrossed in this book. I felt for Marie. Dating is hard but her friendship with Matt (turned into dating) was perfect. I truly believe being friends first before any turning sexual really makes a better transition. You don’t have to pretend with a friend. You have no expectations but once you feel that romantic sexual attraction that can be awkward and unacquainted. You really have to go into a relationship with out any expectations. Marie and Matt tried and failed several times but they always talked it through! Love this book

The Best One Yet

This is by far my favorite installment in Penny Reid's Knitting in the City Series. It breaks from her usual formula and focuses more on the main couple and has less of the friend circle, which I liked, although the extremely detailed recall descriptions of everyone in the knitting group were a bit annoying since I listened to all of the books in a row and, therefore, had no trouble remembering their characters. The computer puns also got bit old toward the end, but ultimately they added to the male lead's character. Also the main sex scene was definitely the best in the series so far.

In this book the author managed to minimize her series-wide tendency to use the same less-than-everyday lexicon for all of her heroines, though the problem was still evident. It's like they all studied for the vocab portion of the SAT together. And I think she needs to find new ways of describing facial movements. You could start a Penny Reid drinking game and do a shot every time a character's mouth hitched/pulled/tugged to the side or a character's eyebrows jumped/bounced or a character's jaw ticked, but then you'd get alcohol poisoning before you finished the first book in the series. And can someone please explain to me what it means for someone's jaw to "tick"? Because it sounds like something you need to see a doctor about.

All in all, this was the best book yet. I'm looking forward to Marriage of Inconvenience, the last book in the series, though I am peeved that it is not included in the Romance Package, and I therefore have to spend a credit on it.

favorite book on the series!!!!!

best book so far! some books in this series are a bit less interesting. this one is so far the most entertaining and most interesting! no trumped up drama and no truly frustrating moments that made me want to skip ahead.

Joy's narration is superb! her accents and tones were very good and made it easy to know exactly who was speaking.

Love the book, not wild about the narrator

I love Penny’s books, this one being one of my favorites. Matt & Marie are charming. The narration was not that great. Hearing her mispronounce Sandra completely took me out of the story. Also, she gave Nico a Bronx accent? It just jolted me out of the audiobook. Please have your narrators listen to the previous books before they start.
