Description

From the show's creators comes the groundbreaking novel inspired by the Broadway smash hit Dear Evan Hansen.

Dear Evan Hansen,

Today's going to be an amazing day, and here's why....

When a letter that was never meant to be seen by anyone draws high school senior Evan Hansen into a family's grief over the loss of their son, he is given the chance of a lifetime: to belong. He just has to stick to a lie he never meant to tell: that the notoriously troubled Connor Murphy was his secret best friend.

Suddenly, Evan isn't invisible anymore - even to the girl of his dreams. And Connor Murphy's parents, with their beautiful home on the other side of town, have taken him in like he was their own, desperate to know more about their enigmatic son from his closest friend. As Evan gets pulled deeper into their swirl of anger, regret, and confusion, he knows that what he's doing can't be right, but if he's helping people, how wrong can it be?

No longer tangled in his once-incapacitating anxiety, this new Evan has a purpose. And a website. He's confident. He's a viral phenomenon. Every day is amazing. Until everything is in danger of unraveling, and he comes face-to-face with his greatest obstacle: himself.

A simple lie leads to complicated truths in this big-hearted coming-of-age story of grief, authenticity, and the struggle to belong in an age of instant connectivity and profound isolation.

Ce que les critiques disent

"[A] particularly authentic first-person narration about family dynamics, the importance of kindness, and the horrors of not fitting in at high school.... A must-read." (Publishers Weekly)

"Yep, the hit musical will make you cry just as much in book form." (Entertainment Weekly)

"Even in book form, Evan Hansen's story sings. Required reading, especially for anyone who's ever needed to be found." (Becky Albertalli, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and Leah on the Offbeat)

One of the most emotional books I have ever read.

A wonderful, Emotional and heartwrenching journey.

A story that instantly connected with me and kept me captivated until the close.

Dear Evan Hansen has become my obsession.
The novel, the Play, but most of all the soundtrack.
if you haven't experienced any of these Emotional masterpieces, you owe it to yourself to check any/all of them out.

experience all the feels.

Thank you Evan Hansen.

Amazing narrators, heartwrenching story

Ben Levi Ross and Mike Faist are PHENOMENAL NARRATORS. And Mallory singing was the icing on the cake. Loved hearing more about Connor. Loved hearing Mike again. If you like the musical, or the Original Broadway cast recording, you'll love this, it's basically the musical but MORE. And Connor. Oh Connor ;-; I don't wanna spoil it but my heart broke about 500 more times after hearing more from him.

Thank you to the authors for writing this. Thank you for Miguel. I am a MESS.

Didn’t know a thing about it...

Of course I’d heard about the play but never paid attention to the storyline so I knew nothing about the story. I was surprised by the story; it wasn’t at all what I expected. I enjoyed it very much! It spoke to me on several levels and the narration was terrific.

Very good!

His voice is just as I imagine Evan’s to be and this reading of the book was very nice to listening to as I followed along in the book! It was also easy to navigate the chapters.

Words Fail (is that cheesy?)

While this book is fiction, it still gives a valuable view into the psyche of high schoolers, or at least the psyche of high schoolers who don’t fit in. Ben Levi Ross and the other actors did a wonderful job narrating. While there is no big ending, it is realistic, and I am curious about how it corresponds to the musical.

Love! Love! Love Dear Evan Hansen!

I love how much back story it gives on Connor and insight into to Evan.
If you saw the musical, then you definitely need to read or better yet, listen to the novel. So much was explained and questions were answered. It is terrifically awesome!

Impacted

I was thankful that this musical had been turned into a book for those of us who weren’t able to see the live production. It’s a very thought-provoking story with an impactful message. I could’ve done without the swearing but understand that it is common in this genre. It really does tie together so many of the issues that are current culture and society have to endure and navigate.

This is one hell of a book that needs more love

Words? Fail. Best book? Yes. Hotel? Trivago.
After viewing the musical, this story is ten times more impact-full. It even delves deeper into some details, like the reason why Connor Murphy committed suicide. Overall? Words fail.
I would defiantly recommend Dear Evan Hansen to both young readers and adults.

Dear Even Hanson

I like this book because it make you feel like you are not alone. I would recommend this book to anyone who like or has seen the musical or like me are about to see the musical. I chose my rating be the performance of the book was so good it had music and song from the musical.
