I grew up in a religious environment that functioned very much like a cult, and I devoted my entire life to it. When I eventually fell in love with someone I wasn’t “supposed” to love, everything came crashing down. He chose to stay within that world and marry a woman, while I chose to walk away from the life and career I had built.
What followed was one of the darkest decades of my life.
Hearing David share his journey brought up a lot of emotions, but it also gave me something incredibly meaningful: reassurance. His story reminded me that choosing authenticity, even when it costs you everything is still the right decision.
