À propos de cet audio
One time police detective Peter Diamond loses his job as a security guard when he fails to spot a small Japanese child hiding in the furniture department of Harrods. Weeks later, she's still unclaimed; Diamond is unable to forget the frightened eyes of the silent little girl and takes on the challenge of uncovering her identity. Now Diamond is back in the sleuthing business, following a trail that leads from London to New York to Tokyo and to a shocking climax that may shatter his heart or cost him his life.

Both plotlines are handled capably - albeit imperfectly.. but remain so distinctly unrelated - until the climax - that the audiobook actually tries listeners' patience (Lovesey could have dropped hints or employed some foreshadowing or something.. but instead simply asks his readers to "hang around"). If you can manage it, the payoff is considerable (the plot resolution is clever).. but 'Diamond Solitaire' is unnecessarily a bit of a slog.
On the fortuitous side, reader Simon Prebble turns in an impressive performance.. by no means flawless (he reads too slowly, for example).. but characterized by spot-on diction, timbre, cadence, and tone - and distinctive, realistic voice-acting.
In toto, this somewhat awkwardly told procedural rates 5.5 stars out of 10. The audiobook is appropriately offered as a 'Plus' selection: it's worth a listen to any fan of the "mystery" genre - but it wouldn't merit a Credit if they asked for one.
Passable Mystery. Klunky Delivery.
