À propos de cet audio

This is a collected edition of the first two books in the Dimensional Traveler trilogy.

Stephen Crawford is trying to finish his PhD dissertation when he's transported to a magical land he's previously only experienced through gaming. With a strange new capability that causes him to capture (and remove from existence) places, things, and people, he's trying to make sense of his situation and make his way back to Earth.

These books are a great way to play a tabletop game. The series helped expand the interpretation of my imagination. Rather unique perspective on the exploration of realities. Staggering view on the origin of the universe. Do listen closely.

Honestly, this was click bait. I’m glad it was free because I would have returned it. Also, some of the characters voices have been omitted from the edit. It’s not one I’ll listen to again.

Not unless you’re a D&D fan, then only maybe.

This John Champaign offering follows 'Stephen Crawford' - a Theoretical Physics graduate student suddenly thrust into a game-structured existence. He makes use of gamer knowledge from his experiences on Earth to navigate the multiverse in a series of encounters exploring RPG-styled realities.
• In 'Dimensional Traveller' (Book One), Stephen takes apprenticeship training in a Wizard's Guild and forms a classic adventuring party.. then explores magic-infused card-based gameplay when welcomed into an exclusive club of reality-manipulating magic-users that can create "pocket dimensions" at will and play in those realities
• In Book Two ('Shattered Dimensions'), Stephen continues to explore a series of game-structured existences - encountering characters that he rolled up and played in his past (now sentient) - and experimenting with his near-godlike abilities. He creates an array of powerful characters to assist him in mainly knowledge-gaining quests in a frankly boring book

As to presentation: I enjoyed David Winter's performance of the book, but it was a bit disappointing. His diction + pacing are solidly professional, his natural British-accented timbre/cadence is comfortable, and he understands the author's intended tone. Unfortunately, his voice-acting is over-the-top (elven characters have ridiculously thick East Indian or cartoonishly French 'Inspector Clouseau' accents.. and the antagonist in Book Two sounds like the Transylvanian Count from 'Sesame Street'). The delivery is distinctly "below average" overall.

I rate the 'Dimensional Traveller Omnibus, Books 1&2' 4.5/10-stars. Don't expect "literature" - or even much entertainment - if you download this collection.. but if you set your expectations appropriately, they're a reasonable distraction to occupy a couple of quiet afternoons, I suppose. Whether you play tabletop RPGs like 'Dungeons & Dragons', card-play games like 'Magic: The Gathering', or MMORPGs like 'Skyrim', these books explore both theoretical + practical aspects of those "nerdy" cultures. The books are a little bit cerebral for my tastes, but I kinda liked them.
It should be noted that I found the book on the "included with your subscription" 'Plus' menu, however. If they ask for a Credit, just spend it elsewhere.

Subpar GameLit-flavored Fantasy
