Description
After 200 years of exile, King Maric has allowed the legendary Grey Wardens to finally return to Ferelden. When they come, however, they bring dire news: one of their own has escaped into the Deep Roads and aligned himself with their ancient enemy, the monstrous darkspawn.
The Grey Wardens need Maric's help, and he reluctantly agrees to lead them into the passages he traveled through many years before, chasing after a deadly secret that will threaten to destroy not only the Grey Wardens - but also the kingdom above.

Pleasantly surprised!
The beginning took me a little bit to get into but once they got the ball rolling I was incredibly engaged to the story! I sat and listened for about 6 hours straight till I finished it! People don’t give this entry the praise it deserves

10/10 on everything except the narrator.
The narrator somewhat ruined the immersion, by mispronouncing certain words, like "thaig" and "Maric". Other than that, it was an incredible journey. Can't wait to listen to the next in the series!

decent
I loved the book as a giant Dragon Age fan but some parts of the story are rough plot wise and some of the pronunciations are much different than the games. I enjoyed Duncan with a street urchin kind of accent but it was an odd choice that was implemented for all the Orlesian accents so it might be a downer for some ppl

Worth a listen if you LOVE the Dragon Age games.
As I wrote in the review for The Stolen Throne, these aren't great works of art or in any way intellectually compelling. These are just more of the Dragon Age universe being explained in depth and that is what the rating is based on. It isn't necessary to read/listen to and you aren't really missing a lot if you don't read/listen to the books, but it does help to develop your imagination when trying to complete the picture. I find it enjoyable to put pieces of the story together but I was not willing to pay full attention actually reading them so I got the Audible recordings instead. I expect Asunder and Masked Empire to have more interesting insight because of the characters that will be in it. I can't wait for next month's Audible credits for that reason.
This book gives you some context on the characters Duncan and Fiona, and their relation to Maric and Alistair. Also, The Architect and Utha from Awakening and the nature of the taint are given a lot more context. This book has quite a bit on Darkspawn and taint. It's all set in the Deep Roads. There is a lot less Loghain in this one. I don't like that character anyway.

Great book
Absolutely loved it. The narrator pronounces a few fictional words incorrectly, but performs fantastically.

read if you play
I'm a die hard DA fan.
Ignore the fact that the narrator pronounces some words wrong and his accents are off for some and you'll enjoy this as much as I did.
