I found this book quite amateurish. Not sure if it’s meant to be for younger readers or not. One of the problems I had with it was the narrator. Her voice is fine, but the delivery is the problem. There are no breaks in between the sections which switch topic and point of view, so things get quite confusing.

It also seems like the author tried to throw all the fantasy tropes into a short story. It would have been better to introduce some themes later since this is supposed to be book one of a series
