Description
A promising young singer is found dead in a clearing in a forest, gruesomely murdered—her larynx cut out, and an antique music box placed carefully atop her body, playing a mysterious lullaby that sounds familiar, but that no one can quite place. As the Trondheim police follow the trail of this deadly killer, it becomes clear that both cases are somehow connected to a centuries-old ballad called "The Golden Peace," written by a mysterious composer called Jon Blund, in the seventeenth century. This lullaby promises the most sound, sweet sleep to the listener—and as time ticks by, the elusive killer seems as if he will stop at nothing to get his hands on this perfect lullaby.

enjoyable
Decided to listen to book 2 for a second time at work. I liked it, but...
The author cannot write women, period. It gets old quick. I couldn't handle the subplot between the protagonist and his wife. Who acts like that??? And Siri is still written like fan service, despite a change in her circumstances.
Ugh. And then to end on a cliffhanger when the other books have yet to be translated? Ouch, haha.
But having said all that, the plot was A+ and the writing was, mostly, tight.
I'm a sucker for dual timeline stories, and even though the past portion of this one was set in the 1700s (a time period which I find grim and unnerving), it all came together beautifully.
Two more points: certain fields get a seriously bad rep in these books! The villains all seem to work in related fields.
And this book contains one of the most disgusting scenes that I have ever read, hands down. Well done, but oh my gosh, I could feel the bile rising even on a second read when I already half remembered what was coming. It is truly, epically revolting. I suspect I'll be having nightmares tonight about flies.
