A really great and suspenseful story and the narrator is really good. Highly recommend. One of Stephen Kings best in my opinion.

as always Stephen King explains very complicated themes and regular day-to-day English. I really like the characters and I really enjoyed this book.

I am a huge Stephen King fan and have read the majority of his books. Duma I read when it first was published. I enjoyed it although not my favourite. The reading of this book by John Slattery absolutely brings this book to life. Slattery is incredible throughout.

John Slattery is exceptional

First, John Slattery's narration is freaking amazing. It totally upped the imapct of the story ,made all the characters, especially Edgar, feel like real living breathing people, gave me the creeps, made me laugh and more than once punched me in the heart bad enough to make me cry. I can see now the difference when a really good actor narrates a book.

Second, the book itself. The writing was beautiful, the characters all felt real, and the plot was super creepy. especially the first 2/3rds of the book. I may have hit pause on the book more than once to calm down when things got spooky. Everything about the paintings, I absolutely loved it.And all the relationships felt true.

I've re-listenedned to this one many many times. And every time it feels like I'm listening to a friend.
This maybe a weird thing to say about a horror story, but this book, for some reason, gives me great comfort.

The only negative I can think of is the last parts of the book . Until then everything was perfect. There's a major gut punch, very well executed, and surprising incident that made me cry for real. But after that, slow buildup of horror seems to deflate. It is understandable though. Once you start explaining the spooks, it gets significantly less spooky. The section at the old house, the hunt for answers felt like a video game with bosses for each levels until the final boss fight, which kinda took away from the intensity of the story that had been there till now. There are also things related to Jack Cantori towards the end that feel like rushed,tacked on conveniences to move the plot along.

Still, the book overall remains a five star read. I keep visiting it over and over again.

king at his best.

This is a very good book. Some would say not one of King's very best, but for me it was better than some major works like "IT". I liked that the supernatural elements come on slowly and only ramp up near the end. Essentially for a lot of the book it is about a man coming to grips with major injuries and a marital breakdown. The characters are well developed and very likable, like Wireman, and the relationship between the family members feel real. The narration is spot on as well. Strongly recommend.
