The afterlife is just like a video game, except I didn't start in a noob world like everybody else. I started out on one of the most challenging dungeon worlds meant only for ancient souls who've been dead much longer than I have....

I don't have the right stats for this place, not even a little bit. I'm in complete noob gear with the standard human sword and shield. I don't even have any crafting skills to make a decent breakfast with the high tier ingredients in this place.

Dying in the afterlife is even worse than dying on Earth. Earth, you only die once, but here, you can die over and over again and each one is just as miserable as the last.

There's only one way I can survive the cycle, one way to stay sane.

I need a power leveler...and fast.

This went straight into my favorites! It had vibes that made me think of Ready player one and a nice take on the afterlife!

a positive, is the world building is interesting to a point. our souls are trapped in a video game basically.
negative, I couldn't connect or get drawn into the world.

The story is ok but lacks a lot of development , it is the same for the character’s . To me it looks like the author didn’t received the support that I see in a lots of other creations.

First draft

Protagonist/noob 'Neil' dies in possession of an Epic-level Dark Artifact and has his soul downloaded into a ridiculously high-level section of the 'Reborn Online' MMORPG (the planet 'Epoc' - one of dozens in the massive Afterlife). Power-hungry Users - present in the game for thousands of years - hunt him, manipulate him, or scheme to steal the artifact; Game-Master System Paladins trace his corrupted code and seek to delete him; and a Pixie/sentient sword named 'Murray' tries to guide him through game progression. Aurora Weiss writes well enough: introducing clever original classes like 'Shadowknight' and 'Vampire Lord', scripting combat capably, and explaining Game Mechanics creditably.. but doesn't really introduce anything innovative. She also surrenders to some of the more sophomoric aspects of the LitRPG genre (snarky metagame notifications and the frankly silly 'Murray' character). This book is aimed more at 13-year-olds than at an adult geek-gamer like myself.

Fortuitously for audiobook aficionados: Reader Travis Baldree is on his game. True, some of his character voices are disappointingly cartoonish, but Baldree reads the book with a near-psychic understanding of the author's intended tone. This is an excellent listen.

Altogether, 'Dungeon Worlds' merits 6 stars out of 10. It was a lighthearted fun distraction for a nerd like me when I could download it for free.. but I can't recommend that you spend a Credit on it. Better options beckon when they ask for your money.
