Description

After accepting the fact that he will never know his old reality again, Gunnar looks forward toward building a new life inside Eden's Gate.

It's time to form a guild, gather resources, and earn the acceptance of the Edgewood inhabitants.

If only things were that easy....

The dark elves aren't thrilled about having humans in Edgewood, the mine isn't vacant, and you can't form a guild without at least a few guild mates.

Will Gunnar pursue Adeelee? Is Rachel still out there somewhere? And who is Jax exactly? Could he really be a Sparrow?

Excellent sequel with a major cliffhanger

It was more of the first but with even more polish and some fantastic world building. Gunner wasn't checking his stat screen nearly as much as the original, thank God, but it is still a bit annoying hearing the narrator read everything out. Perhaps if he only read the important stays relative to the current situation it would be more bearable.

The book ended with quite a cliffhanger that made me immediately buy book 3. Good read.

The end seemed rushed.

I started reading this series because I love the idea of following a character as it progresses and levels up. and it's great to see the main character do that in this book. however the end of the story seemed very rushed.

Good book

I really enjoy the series so far. The only issue I have is in some chapters, the audio cuts out. It kills the experience just a little

More robotic than the NPC's

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story isn't compelling and only covers a few days, the main character struggles with a few moral decisions, but doesn't act on the single paragraph of guilt he feels

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Extremely predictable with no emotional appeal, doesn't help that the main character has forgotten his reason for forming his guild

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator delivers lines with a constant monotone.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Eden's Gate: The Sparrow?

The earlier scenes with Jax and the speculation around him

Any additional comments?

I can tell the author is a huge fan of the drizz't books because the main character is heavily influenced, which I find irritating

Good book but struggled

So I struggled a bit with this books. It just did not excite me as much as the first one did. I’m going to give the third one a try. I’ll let you know how that goes

Good but missed Being Great

All the problems I have with this series could be fulixed by replacing the MC. He whines a lot and I wish I had read it instead of listened because the narrator does an EXCELLENT job of portraying this. Also his thought process in battle is so childish it is often hard to listen. He needs to invest A LOT of points in intelligence... The concept and story are excellent though and it is enough for me to keep listening because I want to know how it ends. If you get annoyed easily do yourself a favor and skip this series. But if you can get past its shortcomings it’s a good listen.

Dont bother its a waste of time

This book has a lot of potential, but it was written by someone who it’s evident doesn’t know anything about RPG games. The (MC) Main Character is indecisive and weak, you tell me that after 10 days if you are a serious gamer you don’t know how to power level. Seriously trash. This book is nothing like Chaos Seeds by Aleron Kong or any other RPG. This is written for someone who doesn’t know anything about RPG. Don’t waste your money or credit on it.

Disappointing

Would you try another book from Edward Brody and/or Pavi Proczko?

Yes, his first book was great. It was exactly what the summary explained. A role playing fantasy game. However when the main character started having trouble with his moral compass, that is when I started to loose interest. I understand what the author was trying to say, but like Ozzy said, it is just a game.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am hooked on this type of story. I enjoy the full immersion story and have listened to many other series.

How could the performance have been better?

It was a little monotone. Accents were pretty good, the narration was not the problem.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Eden's Gate: The Sparrow?

The problem for me was the moral compass thing. Killing with swords and magic is what I was looking for. But when killing an NPC started to turn his stomach because they were also human, the story dropped. I get the higher moral objective, but if I wanted a moral fantasy book I would not look for a sword and sorcery story.

The second book in the series is quite good and makes marked improvements in flow over the first. I really enjoy this series.

The books goes by fast.

The book goes by fast. Wish it was longer but good. The whole conflict with the fell blade was resolved I'm a couple pages with not alot shared between parties. The rest was fine and look forward to the next book although I've been warned the main character gets dumber.

Not worth continuing

It's a fun story to read, but it's not really going anywhere. The story is very shallow and short. The entirety of book one and two is only 14 days. There wasn't much of a plot and it was put aside till the end of the book where it was quickly accomplished. The author adds things to it, like the hackers on earth, and really just forgets about them through the whole book. It's also very tedious how he lists all the stats of everything everytime someone picks up an item or sets it down. At some points, I think the author pulls things out of his back side rather than doing any research which makes the world feel fake. I'm not really interested to know what happens in a story when the writer seems unknowledgeable and unimaginative and inexperienced. Lets just say I'm glad this author didn't write something like Lord of the Rings. Also, he seems mostly caught up with attractive women, even more than Piers Anthony (and that's saying a lot). I also noticed things like corrupted phrases and wasn't sure if the author didn't know correct grammar or if it was just the character: "I could care less", which is a corruption of the correct, "I couldn't care less". Book one and two were fun but there is no desire to continue.
