À propos de cet audio

The New York Times bestseller, now available in paperback—an investigation into the killing of a local man from Maisie’s childhood neighborhood leads the sleuth from her own doorstep to London’s halls of power.

In this latest entry in Jacqueline Winspear’s acclaimed, bestselling mystery series—“less whodunits than why-dunits, more P.D. James than Agatha Christie” (USA Today)—Maisie Dobbs takes on her most personal case yet, a twisting investigation into the brutal killing of a street peddler that will take her from the working-class neighborhoods of her childhood into London’s highest circles of power. Perfect for fans of A Lesson in Secrets, The Mapping of Love and Death, or other Maisie Dobbs mysteries—and an ideal place for new readers to enter the series—Elegy for Eddie is an incomparable work of intrigue and ingenuity, full of intimate descriptions and beautifully painted scenes from between the World Wars, from one of the most highly acclaimed masters of mystery, Jacqueline Winspear.

Story Kept Me Wanting More

Jacqueline Winspear is a great author. I certainly enjoy her writing about Maisie. She rounds out the characters and the storyline is always very well done. The narrator has a beautiful voice and can do all the accents and voices excellently. I recommend both of them.
In this story you can feel the sense of foreboding that must have been among many people in Britain at the time, and the discouragement of having barely gotten over the first World War II, to think that a second one might be coming. The story is woven well around that thought without being too morose.

Great Story, Great Narration!

I enjoyed this book even though it seemed a little slower moving than prior ones. It spent more time on setting the historical context and Maisie and James relationship. A a Canadian, I also appreciate the inclusion of one our major contributors to the war effort. Although it’s not necessary, I believe this is an excellent lead in to what I believe will be the direction as WWII approaches

A little different from the previous books

Ms. Winspear gives us a thoughtful look into the complexities of a 1930’s world, and does not pretty it up with false notions of a simpler time. The development of her main character and glimpses into that character’s search for her own place in that world make this book into something more than a simple cozy mystery.

A Thoughtful look into a complex time

I have completed the entire series by this gifted writer but found this particular issue the least attractive. The ongoing description of the ‘love relationship’ between Maisie and James is wanting. But stick with Ms. Winspear as the tale improves.

One of the least appealing of the series

A bit boring, so markedly different from the previous boos in these series. Could have just read synopses and skip this book

Slow development
