Description

More than anything else in the world, Emily Byrd Starr wants to be a writer. When Emily's stern and proper Aunt Elizabeth finally consents to send her away to high school, the budding author is overjoyed...until she learns of her aunt's conditions. Emily must live with her even sterner and more proper Aunt Ruth, and she has to give up writing stories for the duration of her schooling. Still, to climb one step higher on the Alpine Path to success, Emily agrees.

Follow Emily and her friends Ilse, Teddy, and Perry as they head off to school in Shrewsbury, where adventure, mischief, and heartbreak await. Will Emily finally have her work published in a real magazine? Will her elfin beauty capture a special young man's heart? And when she receives an invitation that promises to change her life forever, will Emily leave her beloved New Moon Farm for good? Find out in this delightful sequel to L.M. Montgomery's classic tale Emily of New Moon.

Okay, but missing some of the spirit

Narrator had an excellent sense of pacing and delivered several well characterized voices. Unfortunately I don’t think Emily’s was one of them. She was rendered a bit callow, catty, and overly accented (in decidedly not a PEI accent). I was left missing Emily’s soulfulness and the luminosity of her spirit.

Lovely narration

No one else could ready Emily even half as well as Ms. Stetson has done. I cannot wait for the third book to be finished. I read these books in my teens and was glad to see them on Audible. I like Emily even better than I like Montgomery’s Anne of Green Gables (after the first book).

Anxiously awaiting book 3

AnnE has always been my favorite LMM character, but Emily has a special place in my heart, too. If you are unfamiliar with this Starr, I suggest giving her a chance. Emily takes a while to warm up to. Unlike AnnE, where you are introduced to the main characters early and love them immediately, there is some groundwork to be laid with Emily. There is also a lot of very slow thawing of hearts and opening of minds over the first two books. But, she grows, as do the adults and other people in her life, over that time, literally and figuratively, with her own special talents. I keep checking for a date on book 3. This narrator has a good gift for voices and ages Emily well.
