Interesting premise, big rabbit trail to follow
the first part of the book is interesting and related to everyday survival, but it quickly delves into philosophical and deep scientific discourses that are only vaguely related to the idea that the title and beginning of the book are discussing.

Disappointing
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely loved Laurence Gonzales’s earlier book: “Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies and Why”. It is one of my favorite books I’ve ever read and I’ve read it multiple times. It talked all about the psychological aspects of survival and the mindset and how the mind works. This one seemed atleast to me to be advertised as similar. It was most certainly not. The narrator was very good and there was a few interesting chapters, but the bulk of the book was a sales pitch for an outdated view of evolution and a long winded, propaganda-filled rant on climate change. If I wanted to get lectured by Al Gore or AOC or Greta on how we are all doomed to die in a couple years, (or a couple years ago already), that’s what I would’ve invested my time in. Would not recommend this book.
However, his other book, Deep Survival, I recommend to everybody, even if the narrator was a little harder to listen to.
