À propos de cet audio
It’s been two years since the world ended. Two years since the dead rose and the plague of ex-humanity decimated mankind. For most of that time, the superhero called St. George, formerly known to the world as the Mighty Dragon, has protected the people of Los Angeles at their film-studio-turned-fortress, The Mount. Together with his fellow heroes - Cerberus, Zzzap, and Stealth - he’s tried to give the survivors hope and something like a real life. But the swollen population of The Mount is becoming harder and harder to sustain, and the heroes are feeling the pressure.
Hope arrives in the form of a United States Army battalion, based in a complex a few hundred miles away in Arizona. This is not just any base, however. The men and women of Project Krypton are super-soldiers, designed and created before the outbreak to be better, stronger, and faster than normal humans. They want the heroes and all the people of The Mount to rejoin America and have normal lives again.
But can the military be trusted? And is there even a country left to rejoin? There is a secret at the heart of Project Krypton, and those behind it have an awesome power that will help them keep that secret hidden. The power of Freedom.
BONUS SHORT STORY: Ex-Patriots includes "Codependent", one of four interlocking stories from The Junkie Quatrain by Peter Clines.

The Story and Twist --(SPOILER FREE)--
Without giving away anything, the twist I thought was only decent (it was even less surprising in Book 3). It wasn't overly unexpected and it simply didn't leave me dumbfounded in my seat. BUT, it made for some really great storytelling and it was a nice shove the story needed to shift into the climax. The military themes throughout the book can become somewhat boring after awhile, or at least stagnant. But the twist, thankfully, was in the perfect place in the book to keep me locked in and still enjoying every minute. Not to mention Peter Clines seriously knows how to leave hints for us, because I've always enjoyed the sensation of: "oooooh now it all makes sense." And that's something Clines does not cheap out on in this novel.
The Performance
I absolutely adored the narrators in this novel, all the characters truly feel dynamic this time around, and with the introduction of Mark Boyett and Elisabeth Rodgers, the world feels so... alive. (no pun intended). Again, to avoid spoilers, I'm going to be vague, but Boyett voices a character that has now become my favourite person in the series, really wonderful job, and props to Jay Snyder again for being such a dynamic voice actor. And just a side note, I've read books on audible where there is only one narrator before, and it can make you lose interest in the characters very quickly (at least for me) when you can tell its the one guy doing it all. But in this case with the very very talented Khristine Hvam, and Elisabeth Rodgers along side Snyder and Boyett, it creates this harmony of entanglement with you, the story and the characters. A good performance can make a good book amazing.
Overall
Overall I really loved this book, like I stated at the beginning, this has been my favourite installment in the series. As explored in the first novel, Peter Clines hits a home run in my book on this crossover genre of: Zombie, Superhero, Sci-Fi, (little bit of horror? or at least gore). Truly a series that I think I can say, gives a fresh perspective on the aspects of Zombies as a writing tool. No, this novel wont blow your mind, or make you contemplate your existence. But if you liked the first one (or hell, if you like the idea of zombies and superheroes) you'll love this series AND this book. It may not have been existential, but it sure as hell was captivating. I found myself getting lost in it, enthralled by the beautiful writing and stunning voice work.
All I can say is, if you were already thinking about trying this book and you're reading through the reviews, just get it already!!!
Juuuust right, loved it!

That's not a thing, and I'll never be able to forget it. He uses it twice too, just in case you thought it was a mistake, a typo, a slip of the mind-tongue. Nope. This man really said roundhouse punch. Twice.
