In the name of “Science”

Early explorers are always fascinating. Setting off into the unknown in the name of science, sometimes without any scientific background at all. This book covers about 30 years of expiration in Africa. It jumps around a bit to cover the whole timeline in the search for the Nile and therefore it can be hard to keep the various chiefs and tribes straight. Towards the end it dives into modern history of Uganda which feels a bit out of place when the rest of the book focuses on the early 1900’s but it is linked to contact with the British during these explorations. If you are interested in the Royal Geographical Society at the turn of the century this is an interesting read!
