À propos de cet audio

In this military SF thriller, a colony on one of Jupiter's moons will either be the last bastion of human civilization . . . or ground zero for its extinction.

At long last, humanity has moved beyond Earth and begun seeding new worlds. Colonies extend across the solar system, from Luna to Mars to Saturn's satellite Titan. Even Jupiter's moon Europa has become home to a couple thousand brave souls willing to risk their lives adapting to its frozen and deadly landscape.

After his previous mission in Africa ended in a violent uprising in which he lost every man under his command, Lt. Ryan Braeder's posting to Europa is his last chance to salvage a military career that's in tatters. Here on Jupiter's moon, he's been tasked with easing tensions between the military and an unruly civilian board.

It seems the governor and his cronies are attempting to usurp military command in a play for control. But Braeder's diplomatic efforts are met with defiance as mistrust grows on both sides, threatening the colony's safety. And that's before events Earthside turn his world upside down.

Braeder can only watch helplessly as war erupts on his home planet, releasing a biological plague that sweeps the globe. Supply transports to the colonies are canceled. In a few short months, Braeder's friends, his family—everyone he has ever known—are dead. The human race hovers on the brink of extinction.

Now, Braeder's got one chance to save the colony on Europa. Can he implement a ration plan that borders on starvation, avoid a full-blown mutiny, and prevent Earth's survivors from bringing the deadly plague? One thing's for sure: the future of his species depends on it.

overall not bad, military sci fi is tough to write without a background in it or an editor... this is what lacks most in this book... an inherent misunderstanding of military culture , language and traditions.

otherwise it's a solid listen, a product of the COVID pandemic - really felt like Wool- Hugh Howey- mash up with an Expanse light vibe.

the narration isn't bad, boggles my mind how some can pronounce communicate properly but bungles communique (pronounces it "Comm Unique"... incase the narrator reads this its pronounced Comm-you-ni-kay) production is the biggest weakness with distinct pauses in dialogue ... just a bug a bo, nothing to soil your pants over... has you feeling there's something else that should be happening or the book glitched

the narrator is solid, doesn't sound to have great breadth , but still very good. I'd listen to him again

biggest weakness in the story overall is the lack of the originality... like I said it really felt like I was listening to a space version of Wool (The Silo Series) - spoiler even the virus is created by Iran...

combine that with predictable situations / confrontations ... typical selfish crap for brain politicians vs protagonist with a checkered background

here's my thing... Assholes aren't allowed in space... they would be vetted out of any program, especially in any sort of roughneck colony... these people - the colonists...would be disciplined about policy, procedures, safety... and there's no way any colony over a handful of people would be set up unless there was MASSIVE redundancy in all systems... MASSIVE ....

single points of failure don't work in space

pretty sure I still would have purchased it, even though it was free. I am looking forward to the next book
