Description

In Face the Music, Paul Stanley - the co-founder and famous "Starchild" frontman of KISS - reveals for the first time the incredible highs and equally incredible lows in his life both inside and outside the band.

Face the Music is the shocking, funny, smart, inspirational story of one of rock’s most enduring icons and the group he helped create, define, and immortalize. Stanley mixes compelling personal revelations and gripping, gritty war stories that will surprise even the most steadfast member of the KISS Army. He takes us back to his childhood in the 1950s and '60s, a traumatic time made more painful thanks to a physical deformity.

Born with a condition called microtia, he grew up partially deaf, with only one ear. But this instilled in him an inner drive to succeed in the most unlikely of pursuits: Music. Stanley’s memoir is a fully realized and unflinching portrait of a rock star, a chronicle of the stories behind the famous anthems, the many brawls and betrayals, and all the drama and pyrotechnics on and off the stage.

Raw and confessional, Stanley offers candid insights into his personal relationships, and the turbulent dynamics with his bandmates over the past four decades. And no one comes out unscathed - including Stanley himself. "People say I was brave to write such a revealing book, but I wrote it because I needed to personally reflect on my own life. I know everyone will see themselves somewhere in this audiobook, and where my story might take them is why I’m sharing it." (Paul Stanley)

Understanding the Misunderstood

I was never a major fan of Kiss but always a fan of Paul Stanley. This well written book gave me a deeper insight of a wonderful Artist. The audio version of this book was an absolute treat to listen to and gain a stronger respect for this Legend of Rock n Roll.

Great book...

Loved it, I have a new respect for Paul now. I really enjoyed hearing the history (Kisstory) of one of my favorite bands. Personally my 2 favorite albums are Destroyer and Psycho Circus. I was only able to see them once and the show was incredible. I never knew about Paul's ear before this book. These kinds of books are so much better with the author reading it. I definitely recommend this one even if you are not a Kiss fan.

Loved it!!

Listening to Paul share his life story was very insightful. As a Kiss fan , it was great hearing about how it all began. But its truth and positive lessons along with Paul's humor made for a awesome audiobook.

This Was a Great Surprise!

I was not expecting such an intimate look at Paul Stanley‘s life. First of all it was very cool to hear Paul Stanley actually narrating and then to talk about things that were probably very hard for him to reveal publicly was even more heartfelt. He was more of a real person to me by the time I was finished listening to this. He also was not typically the type of person that I would imagine being a big rockstar. I like the way he was very frank about talking about his bandmembers but not really trying to trash them in anyway, just speaking of their reality of being part of Kiss and how it affected him & the band. He tried not to take any credit where credit wasn’t due and give credit to those who deserved it. I was equally surprised by his commitment to his family and his love of wife & his children. His compassion for other children/people that suffered ridicule from birth defects as he had and his commitment to helping where ever he could is commendable. For a rockstar, he’s an outstanding human being! I love you Paul Stanley keep up the good work, you’ve done a great job so far!

Must read for all rock fans

This book is addictive from beginning to the end. Nice to see the history of band from Pauls point of view. I think is slightly better than Gene's story, which was also great book.

told by the person who lived it - I loved it

as a long lived Kiss fan- I found this book fascinating. mostly from the innocence of a bunch of dudes trying to make it. it does get more sad when you appreciate the unfortunate dynamics that lead to their split. the story by Stanley explaining how they made it was amazing. most interesting band.

I found Paul's story very interesting

I loved this book. KISS was the 1st concert I saw when I was 14 in 1977 in Edmonton. I loved them every since and Paul Stanley was my favorite. When I saw this book I had to listen.
It was interesting to hear about his childhood, his fears and especially his growth! To hear of the disfunction between the band members and the struggle to keep them together and moving on was an eye opener. No one really thinks when you are watching a concert of what they may be dealing with behind the scenes.
From KISS to phantom of the opera, to his work with aboutface and painting. I loved hearing about his children and that he found what he was looking for in life with Erin.
