Description

Tucker Wright’s Clues for Life:

What’s a four-letter word for an utterly oblivious, totally commitment-phobic, heartbreakingly gorgeous man with a pet pig named Bernadette?

That’d be D-U-N-N, as in Dunn Johnson, my very best pal and fishing buddy since I moved to Licking Thicket.

What’s a six-letter word for a nerdy, crossword-loving town doctor who’s doomed to be hopelessly, thoroughly, irrevocably, in love with that straight best friend for the rest of his born days?

That’s T-U-C-K-E-R, as in me.

But when I agree to let Dunn be my 24/7 dating coach, and he decides to get our whole crazy town in on the act, there’s only one six-letter word to describe the pair of us.

I-D-I-O-T-S.

Amazing performance saved the day

Wow. I’m a huge Lucy Lennox fan and adore Micheal Dean. But this one really missed the mark story wise. I was truly looking forward to Dunn’s story from reading Liars. He seemed so sweetly ignorant and funny. I couldn’t imagine though, how pervasive his absolute lack of self awareness actually was. Or how freaking ANNOYING it would be after chapter upon chapter. As the clear protagonist in this novel, it was wearing. I couldn’t find very much redeeming in his character even though he was well loved by his community.
Additionally, Tucker was bland. The authors gave him
Strong dialogue but fell short. We’re told time and time again how brilliant he is, to the point smacking us up side of the head! But I couldn’t see it. Why would he put up with the interactions over and over again!

So there you have it. Two superficial characters we should like. But I honestly spent the whole two thirds of the book grinding my teeth.

In a nutshell, here’s the saving graces:
1. Michael Dean’s performances are insanely good. Voice sleep were clear and he gave life to every scene that often curled my toes they’re doing good.
2. The surrounding cast of characters are funny and the premise of a community who knows a character is gay (and don’t mind) and in love with his best friend but don’t to tell him, is hilarious if far fetched.
3. Town of Licking thicket and all the other sexually charged and smart, funny entendres.
4. Witty dialogue that made me laugh out loud.

And the path to ruination:
1. Giving the protagonist the name Dunn Johnson and then having every single character refer to him in his full name no less that 118 times in the first two thirds of the book. Michael Dean is a SAINT for not messing that up (I heard Don Johnson in my head every time to the Miami Vice soundtrack) it was so bothersome a repetition, that I actually started counting. If I could hack it, I’d recommend it as a drinking game, although I’m not sure I’d survive it. Perhaps, the authors and the editor didn’t notice given that it’s likely not so noticeable in print, but as an audiobook? It’s pervasive and inhibiting. Kudos again to Mr. Dean!

2. Two unloveable main characters. One, too unself-aware to be likeable, and the second, so bland. I really need to feel something for the main characters in a romance, and I didn’t feel anything but frustration and pity respectively.

Love this series

Once again May and Lucy have hit it out of the park. Dunn and Tucker are completely adorable. Dunn is a lovable dairy farmer who can’t see what is right in front of him and Tucker is a crossword loving doctor that is hopelessly in love with his straight but not so straight best friend. They are the cutest couple who are so in love with each other right from the beginning and the story of their journey to happily ever after is funny and heartfelt.

Laugh out loud

Dunn and Tucks story was as funny as the first two. I started it this morning and didn’t stop it until I finished it. Highly recommended. Lucy and May are a great writing duo. You can tell that they must fed off each other’s story telling. Of course Michael Dean as always very enjoyable to listen to.

A sweet, quirky friends to lovers romance!

This is the third book in the series and can be read as a standalone.

Dunn and Tucker's relationship is quirky and so wholesome!!

I loved this cute friends to lovers romance small town romance.

Dunn and Tucker's relationship had an easy comfort to it which I enjoyed. The chemistry build up between them was intense and palpable.

The tone of the story was lighthearted and angst free.

The narration was enjoyable and engaging.

Absolutely wonderful

Mrs Johnson is the coolest! You'll love Licking Thicket. You'll laugh and cry. Probably simultaneously. Every character is well written.

Sleepy

This series is getting too predictable and formulamatic. Also all of these romance novels try and make gay characters fit into straight molds socially. I would prefer to see a more realistic portrayal. All gay men are not into monogamous relationships, but still have happy healthy relationships in the open and by mutual consent,...or not. It becomes tiresome seeing characters forced into a different standard than reality. It’s no ones place to judge but those involved in the relationship.

Tucker and Dunn

When Dunn (playfully, with not a clue as to what he really did) kissed Tucker at the Lickin' last year we knew it was coming. Dr. Tucker Wright and dairy farmer Dunn Johnson finally came to a conclusion on the realities of their relationship. It was a fun story with wonderful, as always, narration. One tiny little thing, okay one big thing that bothered me throughout the entire story is that Dunn was written as a big doofus. He sounded like it, too. I felt like he was a bag of puppies bouncing through the story. Perhaps if he was voiced differently he wouldn't have come across as a sexy, hot goober who allows a 450 pound-pig to sleep in the house. Just sayin'.

Entertaining and sweet

Different than the usual straight to gay novel. I love how the characters remained themselves as they evolved their relationship. Dunn is the man's man and stays that way. I am sure we have all had a friend like that, uncomplicated and honest.
