New York Times best seller

Named One of the Best Books of the Year by Buzzfeed and The Independent

Ranking alongside George R. R. Martin as a groundbreaking master of fantasy, Robin Hobb delivers the second book in her long-awaited Fitz and the Fool trilogy.

The harrowing adventures of FitzChivalry Farseer and his enigmatic friend the Fool continue in Robin Hobb’s triumphant follow-up to Fool’s Assassin. But Fool’s Quest is more than just a sequel. With the artistry and imagination her fans have come to expect, Hobb builds masterfully on all that has gone before, revealing devastating secrets and shocking conspiracies that cast a dark shadow over the history of Fitz and his world - a shadow that now stretches to darken all future hope.

Long ago, Fitz and the Fool changed the world, bringing back the magic of dragons and securing both the Farseer succession and the stability of the kingdom. Or so they thought. But now the Fool is near death, maimed by mysterious pale-skinned figures whose plans for world domination hinge upon the powers the Fool may share with Fitz’s own daughter. Distracted by the Fool’s perilous health, and swept up against his will in the intrigues of the royal court, Fitz lets down his guard . . . and in a horrible instant, his world is undone and his beloved daughter stolen away by those who would use her as they had once sought to use the Fool - as a weapon.

But FitzChivalry Farseer is not without weapons of his own. An ancient magic still lives in his veins. And though he may have let his skills as royal assassin diminish over the years, such things, once learned, are not so easily forgotten.

Now enemies and friends alike are about to learn that nothing is more dangerous than a man who has nothing left to lose.

Ce que les critiques en disent

“Hobb finds a way to always show us more details of the universe she’s been building over the course of the four previous series.... The friendship of Fitz and the Fool brings danger to them both, but it’s one of the most touching in fantasy fiction.” (Library Journal, starred review)

I have almost finished this series but am not happy with this narrator's interpretation

Narrator's accents and interpretations off putting

Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.

I usually don't care enough to write reviews for the books I listen to, but for the sake of anyone thinking of listening to this audio book you should be aware that this narrator is not good.
Robin Hobb as always is an amazing writer but the narrator ruins a lot of the enjoyment by his constant voice changes.
From sentence to sentence he will switch from voicing Chade as a raspy old man to a young sounding noble man which is quite jarring when trying to immerse yourself in the book.
It sounds like this is a rehearsal tape where he is trying to decide how each character should sound but in the end he just gave up.
Really not sure how someone could be so lazy or forgetful that they don't remember how they voiced a character in the previous sentence let alone the previous book.
If i could give the narrators performance 0 stars i would.

Terrible Narrator

horribly bad forced accents, also why couldn't the narrator listen to the other books and maybe go off the ones that laid the groundwork before?

Why did they end with this narrator

It was definitely my favourite book so far in the Realm of the Eldlerlings. Enjoy!

Best one yet

I am fully engrossed in this story as I have followed fitz and the fool since the beginning, however this narrator has obviously not listened to the other narration of other books and its painful! All the characters have a snooty rich aristocratic accent which doesn't make sense for most of them ( like Kettricken) Vigilante sounds like he is speaking through gritted teeth, again so painful. I will finish this series but only because I love the story will I endure this horrible narration.

As always Robin Hobb knocks it out of the park. Such an amazing series. I can’t wait to start the next book.

The writing and Characters are phenomenal

Robin Hobb is a talented writer & storyteller! The continuing saga of Fitz & the Fool is spellbinding. I have now listened to The Farseer Books, The Tawney Man Books & The Liveship Traders Books. I am now 2 books into The Fitz & The Fool series. The weaving of characters past & present is entrancing. The narration of the Farseer & Liveship books was great but the narration of the Tawney Man was a drastic change from the previous narrator which took a whole book to get accustomed to. The narration of Fitz & The Fool is almost more than I can bare!! Painful!! The whispering voices as the characters skill to each other, the snooty accents of King Dutiful & Lant as well as the whiny voice of King Rein are just wrong! Both Lant & Shine are spoken through what sounds like clenched teeth. I’d about to start the 3rd book & will ensure the pain of hearing his assault of the book in order to conclude the series because the story is worth the pain.

Great story! Painful narration!

As so many other reviews have already said, it’s a good story, but I found it really hard to get into the story because of the narrator. He has a weird whispering growl for many of the characters, whispers when anyone is skilling, and half the characters sound like smarmy, stuck up, snobs. The choice to make the Fool German was odd. And it sounds like he’s speaking through clenched teeth for several characters. If I wasn’t so invested in finishing this series, I wouldn’t listen to the next book. What a shame to ruin the final trilogy in the series with such an irritating narrator.

Narrator ruined the story

This is a really great series, I have been devouring it. The only issue I have is the narrator. He tries to do different accents and voices for everyone, which has been entertaining, but he can't convey any emotion in those voices but distain. Its easy to ignore with old characters I love, but new characters I'm just getting to know I have to work hard to not judge them by his interpretation of them.

Wonderful Series

I’ve listened to and enjoyed the previous two trilogies in this series, and I somehow managed to get through the narration of the first book but I had to give up about a quarter of the way into this one. I almost never write reviews and I hate writing negative ones but the narration is just so bad, making the fool sound like Count Dracula and very little change to determine whose speaking and always whispering to make it even harder to hear. I’m not quite sure why this narrator was chosen to read the most important books of a beloved series, or why he was allowed to keep reading the series after so many people complained about the first book. Do yourself a favour and read this series instead.

Couldn’t Get Past The Narration
