Very interesting concept of a post war civilization back to medieval times with technology intertwined. I am interested in continuing on the series!

I just completed book one and like it so far. Unlike some other books I read recently, Craig Martelle seems to know where he is talking the story. A very different perspective

This story is slow and lacks excitement. I found myself feeling likevitcwasctryingvto beva kids book with adult tendencies. in a word boring.

Not really worth the price in time to listen to.

I really loved the concept and the structure to the story but it lacked some fine details around character development and back grounds. Felt a little more like a proof read before it gets published with the editor coming back with comments.
Sadly a lot of my dislike was with the narrator, he was clear and concise but lacked feeling to the book, I found the monotone hard to keep interested on.
However the story has a lot of potential and I would watch if it made a leap to film! I think it would be good to have new films out there and this as a base could be great!

This story was much better than I expected from the title. I like the concept and creativity of the story.

The premise of the plot is good. An medieval like society that has hints of "old tech" and the story how the protagonist searches for it and what happens. The issue I have is the writing and the tone.
The writing style is very simplistic, almost like a YA book but I have read YA books that are written at a higher reading level than this one. The story plods along and he describes basic day to day normal activities like a diary. There are flashes of action that has violence and death so it tries to be more mature at times but it doesn't fit with the style of the rest of the story. Also he describes what characters are doing instead of writing dialog the character could use to describe their actions. At times it almost feels like its a journal more than a novel.
'Then there's the narration. When the narrator is reading the main plot and the two human characters he almost sounds robotic. It's like he is reading an instruction manual. When he changes to the animal creatures he mixes it up and adds more emotion but the human characters are really dull. The story feels very monotonous to listen to for an audio book.
Im going to finish it because I want to see what happens and it's an easy listen to at work and driving around. I wouldn't spend money or credits on it though. It feels like this is the first attempt at a book for the author and it's basic. Hopefully his writing has improved.
