Charming with Surprising Depth
I loved this story. Loved the characters and the artful, witty prose. I loved the themes, both reconciliation of hearts and reconciliation with death. And I was surprised. This book initially comes across as something for children since the main characters are a cultured penguin and an uncouth mouse. But, as an adult, I was so charmed by the prose and convinced by the characters that I was fully drawn in. I was surprised by the depth of the themes and the ending teared me up.
I believe this is a book that's meant to be read in families. And not just read, but deeply discussed. It's beautifully written and delightfully narrated.
