Description

Are we alone? It was only a matter of time before the truth was revealed....

Commander David Bryce is scheduled to lead a routine re-supply run for the Orbital Development Group (ORB) to the fledgling colony on Mars. Without warning, he’s taken away by government agents and told the mission parameters have changed.

They’ve discovered something. And it’s drifting closer to Earth.

Atlas Donovan tirelessly hunts for an artifact, and tracks the piece to Lake Como, Italy. After the recent news from ORB, Atlas is more drawn to the trail than ever. He continues his search, determined to uncover the significance of the strange markings, and more importantly, where the artifacts hail from.

As both Atlas and David draw near to their objectives, they realize a secret organization is working against them; a clandestine force with so much influence, they seem impossible to oppose.

Are we alone?

No, and they’ve been here before....

From Beyond is an action-packed science fiction thriller from the best-selling author duo Jasper T. Scott and Nathan Hystad.

Great performance, ok story

I have never been a fan of the secret organization who keeps the truth from humanity and somehow knows what is best for everyone covering up all saigned of alien activity, (I guess you could call this the "You can't handle the truth" mentality) That's the only reason I gave this book a 3 stars. By the end I just kept thinking "If humanity knew about this stuff then you wouldn't be stuck in this predicament."

But if you like secret organizations with mysterious leaders and unknown ajendas where you don't know if they are the good guys or the bad guys then this book is for you!

Worth the listen

It was pretty good but it’s just another take of the alien invasion trope. All in all the writing was good, the narration is quite good, I quite enjoy Ray Porter! It does look like the next book is going to improve on an already good story🤞

Author seems to know nothing about space

Ray Porter as always does a great job.

But despite the author having written other books about space stuff, they still seem to have missed basic stuff.

Spacex doesn't exist, but fake-spacex still exists in Boca Chica. The fuel is wrong (starship used methane/o2 not hydrogen/o2). No spacecraft burns for hours at a time so the crew has convenient gravity to eat breakfast. And there's only two spacecraft instead of the hundreds being planned.

At some point secret agent squirrel "tosses her pad to the bed" while floating in the cabin. So, partial gravity just on the mattress?

There's loads of problems with basic fact checking on top of an entirely predictable plot. Nick Cage dude who's trying to "find the alien relics" just randomly meets a lady in Tokyo. Despite already having been nearly killed twice, and saying to himself it's unusual to hookup with someone randomly, it's not really any surprise when she's a bad secret squirrel too. Gah it's so predictable.

And the ship that's heading out to meet the alien ship spends months approaching it without even trying to radio ahead or blink the lights at it? Just gah.

Skip.

Awesome

Yes I am in awe at just how awful this book is. Narrator is great as usual but the story is silly to the point of being unbearable.
I did make it half way before I was overwhelmed by the relentless stupidity. I would cover some of the details but where to start, I couldn't find anything that stood out. It's like the book was a joint effort by a class of failing high school students whose only contact with science, technology, and general life experiences come from comic books ... for very young readers. Not a fan.

Worst book by best narrator

Love Ray Porter’s narration in any book. I even like some campy by-the-numbers books for simple entertainment between deep thought provoking books. However, this is, by far, the worst story I’ve listen to on audible. Contradictions galore. Logic failures. Paper thin characters whose actions stray from any (very limited) development. Please do not waste a credit or your money. First book I’ve returned, which was very easy. Thank you audible for not making us fearful to take a chance on new books. Unfortunately this one stinks.

This one is like watching a movie. Plenty of action with characters you actually are concerned with!

A haunting journey with deep secrets

Received as an ARC, this is an honest review. Also received from the author Nathan Hystad an audio copy to honestly review. Narrated brilliantly by Ray Porter, brings to life this immersive journey you won't soon forget.

This explosive and creative collaboration between Jasper T Scott and Nathan Hystad, is not only an immersive story but it's visually harrowing and deeply character-driven. Commander David Bryce already had one delicate mission but when a bizarre alien ship is spotted; nothing else matters but Bryce and his crew aboard the Beyond III must unravel. And just getting aboard what becomes dubbed as the Interloper, proves to be the beginning of an adventure the crew didn't expect. Because everything about the Interloper is as alien as you can get: a vessel that's organically crafted from rock, eerily bathed in light; and home to aliens that will haunt your nightmares. Filled with gritty action and intense personal drama, From Beyond is the perfect Summer read you can't pass up... or forget. Highly recommended.

Hystad and Scott at their Best!!

From Beyond is the first in a Sci-Fi Thriller that follows multiple different story arcs. This is a story set in the not-too-distant future, in which there is a colony on Mars, and regular missions back and forth. At the start of the story, we meet David Bryce, the commander of the Mars missions, who is informed that he is to make a sudden change to his planned next mission to Mars, to intercept an alien ship. The ship has wandered into our solar system, but there is no idea of who or what this ‘Interloper’ is, just that it is not from our solar system.
At the same time as this is unfolding, we are introduced to Lennon Baxter, a former special agent who is somewhat unhinged, due to an operation that did not end well. However, she has been recalled to active duty to take a role in the mission.
Along with the rest of the crew, Carter, Zasha, Liu, and Akira, David and Lennon are sent off into space to go and meet this mysterious ‘Interloper’ and discover what it is, who or what is onboard, and discover why it has come to our system.
In another part of the story, we meet Atlas Donovan, who at first appears to be a like a secret agent, stealing artifacts for rich collectors. However, we soon learn that he is a man who is obsessed with a particular type of artifact, and has been on a mission for most of his adult life. He is looking for what he believes to be pieces of an alien space craft, he thinks he has one, a piece he got from his Father years ago. At the start of the book, we find him trying to acquire a second piece.
Events unfold rapidly in this book, with the mission to the Interloper happening quickly (and I do NOT want to give away any spoilers there), and at the same time, Atlas on his mission to find pieces of the alien spacecraft back on Earth. What seem to be two unrelated storylines though (funnily enough!), have an odd way of being connected.
This is a book that starts off with some interesting character building and some interesting storylines, and then explodes into a fast-paced thriller in which you just can’t read fast enough to find out what happens next.
The character work in this book is Hystad and Scott at their absolute best, with so many amazing characters to follow. Bryce is outstanding as the Family man who is trapped into going on this mission, and once there, realises he is just way out of his league. But at the same time, he has been doing this for a long time, he is not the Commander of the missions for no reason, and we get to see why he is the leader in so many ways in this book. His motivations as the Father figure are also incredibly powerful, and as a father myself, I really understood where he was coming from so many times in this book. Lennon Baxter is the Special Ops Soldier who has returned from her last operation with a severe case of PTSD after losing someone close to her. It has left her broken and on the edge, and we the character work in this book ix exceptional at conveying just how much psychological damage she has taken. As someone who deals with PTSD on a daily basis, I could empathise with Lennon’s pain, but more than that, I could understand her drive in other parts of the book to. Lennon is a really fascinating and complex character.
The other characters in this book are fantastic, Carter as the Linguist is hilarious, and has a lot of courage when pushed. Zasha is wonderful as the Engineer, Liu is brilliant as the Dr, and provides an interesting insight on aspects of the Interloper that really make for fascinating reading. His character is intriguing. Akira is another captivating character.
Together the crew makes for an interesting dynamic.
Atlas is a really fascinating character, from the first scene, his obsession with the artifacts, and finding out where they came from and what they are. He is driven by this compulsive need to understand.
One of the really exceptional parts of this story is the world-building, which makes it something very different from other stories of this genre. The Interloper is something a bit different, but what they find there is something very different, and creates an absolutely stunning thriller that you just can’t put down. Add to that the elements of the story that relate to Atlas’s hunt, in which the world-building is just outstanding, and this is a really outstanding bit of story-telling.
Hystad and Scott have really outdone themselves on this occasion, as once you start this, you won’t be able to put it down, and you will be desperate to get the second and third books also!!
This is one series that is not to be missed and is one of the Stand-outs for the year!!
Ray Porter is easily one of the best Narrators in the industry today, with a voice that is just so easy to listen to. He has a wonderful range of both male and female character voices, all slightly different, so that they provide a full range of different characters during the story. Porter also provides the emotional state of each of the characters, so you can understand how each of them are feeling as the story unfolds, whether that be angry, sad, scared confused, or happy.
Porter is brilliant, and the audiobook is not just an option, it is an absolute must – one of those times in which you have to listen rather than read, as you get so much more out of an already outstanding book!!

Ray Porter Excels In From Beyond

Two of the better Sci-Fi writers together - again. I knew this would be a good story. I was not disappointed. From beginning to end, the reader is pulled into the possibility of an Earth threatening event from an alien - maybe derelict spacecraft. There is also an interesting investigation going on in obscure places on Earth. As you follow the characters through each chapter, the tension, the mystery and the threat increases. You do not want to miss this new series. If you enjoy audible performances, you will not be disappointed with the companion Audible book featuring the talented Ray Porter.

A thrilling read by Jasper T Scott / Nathan Hystad

In “From Beyond” the reader is presented with two converging plot lines, each equally compelling. One explores an ancient mystery here on Earth, and another is set in the stars around Mars. Combined with an engaging cast of characters this is another thrilling read by Jasper T Scott and Nathan Hystad. Add to this Ray Porter’s typically brilliant narration and this is a can't-miss, must-read novel.

Middle of the road book- predictable Sci-Fi book

My reason for purchasing this book is it was read by Ray Portor. Mr. Portor can usually make most books a pleasure to listen to. When searching for new books to listen to I will search on Mr. Portors name. This book looked interesting. From Beyond suffers from poor understanding of science, boring to just bad characters, and follows the typical plot of bad aliens. I don't see myself continuing with the series. Others may enjoy it if they haven't been spoiled with true science fiction.

A well-crafted sci-fi novel

These two seasoned authors show off a bit and it’s awesome.
You can usually tell within the first chapter if it’s well written and this one certainly is. The beginning of this series is engaging and suspenseful enough that I am wanting more. The characters are well developed and they all converge beautifully. The ending gives me the creeps - in a good way - I can’t wait for the next installment.

Oh and Ray Porter rocks this narration per usual. He’s my favorite and nails this book.
