From reading some really poor reviews, I expected this to be terrible (I had preordered this on Audible and was looking forward to it). It wasn't terrible. But it wasn't good, either. It had the potential to be great, but it didn't get there, just kind of fizzled. I think that partly explains the negative reviews- failed expectations. Also, it definitely went on a few chapters too long. The epilogue, at least, was unnecessary and it took away from the book, in my opinion, even though it was a very happy ending with everything neatly tied up.
I don't know. Others have provided better reviews. It was ok, but I feel kind of ambivalent.

This was a good story but there are so many different topics happening at once I sometimes found it hard to follow... between mental health, paranormal activity, physics, poetry, treason, murder attempt, grief and complicated relationships... but the research used for historical accuracy is impressive and it did leave me wanting a sequel instead of an epilogue.
