À propos de cet audio

Hurting people ask heart-felt questions about God and suffering. The usual answers fail. They don't support the truth God loves everyone all the time. God Can't gives a believable answer to why a good and powerful doesn't prevent evil.

Author Thomas Jay Oord says God’s love is inherently uncontrolling. God loves everyone and everything, so God can't control anyone or anything. This means God cannot prevent evil single-handedly. God can’t stop evildoers, whether human, animal, organism, or inanimate objects and forces.

God Can't was written in understandable language. Thomas Jay Oord's status as a world-renowned theologian brings credibility to the book’s radical ideas. He explains these ideas through true stories, illustrations, and scripture.

God Can't is for those who want answers to tragedy, abuse, and other evils that make sense!

Ce que les critiques en disent

"To find your understanding of life and your love for God renewed, read this book." (Dr. Karen Strand Winslow, Ph.D., Professor of Bible, Azusa Pacific University)

“Victims of trauma sometimes hear theological responses that imply their suffering is somehow “God’s will." Oord gives us a clear and compelling alternative in this profoundly insightful and admirably concrete and accessible book.” (Dr. Anna Case-Winters, Professor of Theology at McCormick Theological Seminary)

“I know of no book that speaks to suffering with the depth of theological sophistication and psychological sensitivity as God Can’t. I recommend it to my students, parishioners, and therapy clients.” (Dr. Brad D. Strawn, Professor of Psychology and Theology, Fuller Theological Seminary)

The Good News - That God Can’t

I fully appreciated the ideas and stories shared in this book. This kind of theology would have saved me years of inner torment and pain. I hope those struggling with understanding who God really is, will take the time to listen to this book. I’m looking forward to checking out the online resources and reading Jay’s other books. 10/10

Very little substance

I was so disappointed with this book. I tried three separate times to get through it to see if there would be anything that supports what it claims to be but could only get 4ish hrs thru and only at 2x the speed. There should be a heads up in the description that it’s a more of a typical “devotional” book complete with music - it took me back to being in unhealthy forms of Christian culture and it wasn’t a pleasant reminder. Seemed like a miss for what I’d presume is the target audience.
I think the worst part for me is the author repeating the many ways the book will lay out this new liberating idea but doesn’t actually fulfill those promises. He sounds a little arrogant in these sections, particularly after giving all his impressive credentials within the book. I found it odd that he hypes up the book within the book. If you’re gonna do something great then do it instead of talking about how good it will be. Let the work speak for itself.
I’ve heard that the author is a very nice guy and I do think he’s trying to do a good thing for the Christian world but there seemed to be very little research done to support his theological claims. I would love to believe that god isn’t all powerful because of the difficult and painful things I’ve witnessed and been through but this was not the book to help with that.
