À propos de cet audio

More than 3,000 years have passed since the first events recorded in Dune. Only one link survives with those tumultuous times: the grotesque figure of Leto Atreides, son of the prophet Paul Muad'Dib, and now the virtually immortal God Emperor of Dune. He alone understands the future, and he knows with a terrible certainty that the evolution of his race is at an end unless he can breed new qualities into his species.

But to achieve his final victory, Leto Atreides must also bring about his own downfall.

messiah was a bit of a slog, God-emperor brings the history, science, and religion of Dune back but is far more exciting than the previous book. I really enjoyed it!

A nice follow up to Dune Messiah

The first thing I realized during the opening chapters of the first Dune book was that it was a weird story. Every following book continued to get weirder and weirder. This book didn't fail that.

Frank Herbert is a master at using philosophy, details, and logic, to slowly twist his characters from past books into lesser, greater, and weirder ways. Paul to the Preacher, Alia to the alien, Leto to Lord. Nothing that Frank Herbert creates escapes this clutches, especially the poor Duncan.

The Dune Saga Remains As Weird As Ever

frank was a political commentator and his allegories throughout this series come out completely in this book.

as much as people dislike his later works, I think they became more and more politically charged from the time he wrote.

this book, above the rest is far more relevant to today than people realize.

the best of dune

The reading is great, first off. But the story has some old fashioned sensibilities with regards to gender and sexuality that haven't aged well. However, I would say that for the scifi aficionados, this is absolutely a required listen.

A Poorly Aged Classic

Out of the series so far I feel like this was the best book.

We get to see a version of someone with absolute authority make the galaxy in his image, all of which was to preserve the human species by preventing them from destroying themselves.
Through this enforced tranquility we are shown the positives, the negatives, and how it has shaped the course of the empire.
Everything is indeed cyclical as what once was, now comes again.
The God Emperor set out to achieve all his goals.

Excellent

God Emperor has a reputation of being too philosophical and confusing, however I found these aspects of the novel to be its strengths. Not to mention the epic story that is told in this instalment. I found the characters of Leto II and Duncan Idaho extremely gripping, and the fascinating dynamic made me almost want to listen to it again after I finished. It is truly interesting how a nearly immortal God being keeps resurrecting Duncan to be his constant companion through time. This book is a must listen!
