I am giving a good review, however...

I liked the premise of the story. It felt a little short, but it did deliver the feeling it promised on the description. Narration was excellent to the point that I wasn't really even thinking about the narrators, as I usually do, but just enjoyed the story they were telling.

Somehow I do feel like something was lacking from the story. Maybe it's my preference on overpowered main characters, but it felt like the mc wasn't using his power nearly enough. I guess you could have different rules explaining this behaviour or saying some character attributes or personal failings with the mc caused this. I personally had a million different ideas on how he could use his power in the wilds or even just experiment with it.

I like the fact that the mc was written in a way that prevents him from showing of his powers too much, but I wish that when he can, he would be more... awesome(?). The title gave the feeling of an op caster, but so far the feeling I have of the mc is of an unimaginative confused kid who is just going with the motions and somehow has no idea how magic could maybe be used (no games, no fantasy books, no fantasy movies? where did this kid live?)

I like the archer, although her constant "anger" at things seems a bit unexplained. Hopefully further stories will expand on this more than just "she lost tom".
The biggest lost opportunity is that the healer seems an empty shell of a mary sue. Only existing to fill out the needs of the mc. No real devotion to gods is really shown in actions, only in words and she accepted easily the fact the her wish for help in the form of a mage came true, but then was surprised the god came to say hi. Also, why would the god care? The healer doesn't seem that devout... maybe in the next book we will learn.
I do enjoy the orc dude with two shield and the agenda of showing the world that orc can be kind and civilized by bashing peoples heads in with two shield! I do wish he also had more interesting things like fun hobbies such as poetry or knowledge of history or cooking or something fancy. Just to give him more character.

To summarize. It was good, but too short to make anything that happened matter to the reader. The book does not stand well alone and clearly needs more "episodes". It feels like the first part of a cheap tv series. I want to love it, but so far I just think it's good.

I am going to give the second book a chance. But with so many great books out there, some of which the same author wrote, "good" just doesn't cut it anymore.

Just like an anime

I watch a lot of anime, This is EXACTLY like a isekai from the isekai boom. This is not bad. Infact, its quite amazing to find a non manga that is a isekai.

Actually quite good

The story is both interesting and engaging. The characters show some depth, which can often be lacking in these types of books. It’s not going to win any awards, but it is quite a fun listen.

A good book but

Honestly I enjoy the book a lot, though I will admit I was/am debating on it being a 3 star.

I like the characters, the world sounds interesting though I think we need more details to flush it out. Same with the magic in like how there is healers, elemantists and a few other types though I hope each are explored a bit further.
I also hope the main character continues as is, he is powerful I just hope it doesn't to go to far.

my main issue really is how fast things developed, yes it's a shorter book which is fine. but how quickly some events happened felt a bit off. The reason i bumped it to four stars is because none of the events are to major this time so I felt it was a good starter book.

I look forward to continue listening to more of this series.

Fantastic voice acting

The voice actors were able to put 100% of the energy of the situation into their, loved the story too and already started the next audiobook

Slow and predictable

The story is just so slow, bogged down in useless and repetitive information. By the time the story does move along, there isn’t really any anticipation left. A lot of the content and plot points and juvenile, things you expect from a Saturday morning cartoon or Kodomomuke. There are a few more mature moments but overall it’s a mixed bag.

I’m constantly thinking to my self “No duh” every time the MC has some genius thought. Definitely not a book you will think about later and need to reread to see if you missed somthing.

Narration was really great, some of the editing was a little off between the male and female voices causing overlap. Also, sometimes the tones of each voice didn’t match the tone of the overall conversation.

Good book - except for the main character

I had a bit of a craving for a new fantasy story, saw this audiobook, and decided to give it a listen. And I will say it definitely satisfied that craving.

the story and premise is a little generic, but overall pretty good, and the book has a lot of charm. I liked a lot of the supporting characters, and there's a lot of good comedic moments that add a nice levity to the story.

My one gripe with this book however is a big one. I feel that the main character in this book suffers from what I like to call "inexperienced author syndrome." It's a phenomenon that I notice in a lot of lesser known titles written by lesser known authors. The main character has no personality, and is given too much right from the start.

As a storyteller myself, I know the feeling. When telling stories, you tend to kind of envision yourself as the main character. And you want yourself to not only succeed, but to be perfect. The story starts to become more about your ultimate fantasy than anything else. All the sudden the main character is not only extremely powerful, but he's attractive, he flirts with every girl he meets and they all flirt back, but yet they're never jealous of each other. I mean, he literally has the god of luck on his side. Not only that but he loses all personality as it's clear the only thing the author envisions him as is perfect. He has no motivation beyond not wanting to go back to his boring old life, and wanting to save his friends and survive. He always knows what to say, what to do, he has everything going for him. And when a main character has no personality and has everything going for them right at the start, that simply makes them a boring, uninteresting character that you have no reason to root for.

A main character needs to have conflict, inner struggles, motivations, and individuality. And there needs to be a steady arc of ups and downs so it feels more realistic, engaging, and satisfying when he does make a breakthrough in his progression, as opposed to just being given everything from the start.

For some this may be a deal breaker. For me the story is saved by it's likeable support characters and straight to the point fantasy tale. This book epitomizes the saying "beauty in simplicity." It's not going to provide you with any kind of ground-breaking, thought-provoking new take on the fantasy genre, but it will provide you with a fairly enjoyable tale of a fun generic fantasy world. I will also say that this audiobook has some fantastic voice acting, which definitely makes this audiobook a fun listen.

Overall, although most of the book was pretty solid, and I thoroughly enjoyed the voice acting, I still struggle to give it more than 3 stars just on account of how poorly written the main character is.

Good story

Interesting story telling. The male narrator takes some getting used to and there are one or two audio level changes, but its an enjoyable listen with a decent mc and cast.
