 Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden has had a rough couple of weeks. As the only openly practicing professional wizard in the Chicago area, he has squared off against a multitude of supernatural bad guys. Harry has won the day against demons, poltergeists, sorcerers, trolls, vampires, werewolves, and even an evil faerie godmother. You might think nothing could spook him. You would be wrong.

Something is stirring up angry apparitions all over town. Something that can break all the laws of supernatural physics. Something that doesnt like Harry. His closest friends are being targeted. The net is closing in. Harry must find a solution soon or find this is one Nightmare from which he will never waken.

Always great

The baddies are bad, but it a different way than before. The evil scheme has layers that you miss and then become obvious. The good guys are sort of good but got some issues. Alliances are made and not really trusted. There is sort of a sardonic humour. These things can be said about any Harry Dresden Novel.

Harry is fighting powerful ghosts because some one or some thing is stirring up the never never. The nightmare has a particular issue with Harry and his friend Michael who is a "Hand of God". Harry has to figure out who is behind this before it gets to him.

The action moves pretty good, the character development is quite good. Since this is an earlier Dresden Novel he doesn't have the backstory that always needs explaining so it moves a bit quicker than the later novels. If you like Dresden novels you will like this one.

The narrator does and excellent job bringing the material to life.

Perfect. Just perfect. It hits you like a cheap shot in the groin. The characters the reason etc. just fucking works. Fucking funny, heart breaking and nail biting and other biting included.

Like the title says, the story was fun but the reader tends to mispronounce words and pause every once and awhile as if he’s lost his pace. I find it very jarring and it pulls me out of the story every time.
Don’t give up on the series though! Marsters hits his stride in later books and the series is awesome.

I had read this 4 times and each time it is just as good as the last. This is the beginning of something wonderful as far as dresden's character development.

This is a second read through, well in this case listen, for me. I loved this book and james marsters just makes it better. This one evokes so much emotion. I dont know how many times my dog looked at me like I was insane for blurting out "that bitch!" or laughing, or shouting "kick his ass Harry!" Maybe it's a good thing I cant go out in public right now lol. Definitely worth the 5 stars I gave it.

Book 1 and 2 are good, but this one is where the author really starts to ramp up. combined with Marsters' narration it's excellent

this series really picks up at the third book
