Description

"There will be three tasks, spaced throughout the school year, and they will test the champions in many different ways...their magical prowess - their daring - their powers of deduction - and, of course, their ability to cope with danger."

The Triwizard Tournament is to be held at Hogwarts. Only wizards who are over seventeen are allowed to enter - but that doesn't stop Harry dreaming that he will win the competition. Then at Hallowe'en, when the Goblet of Fire makes its selection, Harry is amazed to find his name is one of those that the magical cup picks out. He will face death-defying tasks, dragons, and dark wizards, but with the help of his best friends, Ron and Hermione, he might just make it through - alive!

Having now become classics of our time, the Harry Potter audiobooks never fail to bring comfort and escapism to listeners of all ages. With its message of hope, belonging, and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Hermione

Laughed at the narrator's reading of Hermione. Hard to sound like a teenage girl, as a grown man, I assume. This was the only distracting thing for me.

Voldemor ?

I liked this rendition but I originally was listening to the Stephen fry audiobooks, which I did prefer. I think the biggest reason for this was that he actually said the "t" at the end of Voldemort. This version does not and it drove me bonkers.

If Jim Dale would narrate, I would listen to every book on the planet. He’s amazing at what he does.

GoF is the Best Book

I love Goblet of Fire. My physical copy has fallen apart because I read it so many times. I used to have the first chapter memorised. It's definitely my favourite in the series.
Which is why it is so frustrating to have the whole book massacred by Jim Dale. I'd have preferred to have the Stephen Fry version but I guess Audible thinks Canada doesn't want or doesn't need Stephen Fry. Audible is wrong. Canada always needs Stephen Fry.
Having experienced John Lee, I'd actually prefer him over anyone to narrate the HP series.
Jim Dale cannot do accents. He cannot do dialects. He can speak the Queen's English and that's all. It would be fine if he were reading something boring, but GoF contains many dialects (Scottish, Bristolian, Londoner, Cornish, Irish, etc) and it contains Hungarian and French accents. All of these he cannot do. It pulls you right out of the story when someone stumbles whilst reading that story to you (which they shouldn't if they are both a professional VOA and hired for their abilities!) Jim Dale is a talented VOA, no doubt, but he was not cast properly.
I fear having to hear him narrate Fleur.

Go with stephen fry's reading

Stephen frys reading is much better than this one. Jim dale uses the same voice for tons of characters and does a poor job of capturing appropriate tones in the dialog given the situation or descriptive text that j.k. Rowling used describing the line(s)

Only one disappointment

I did not care for Jim Dale’s voice. I felt it was a poor choice for the narration.

Hareeeeey!

I LOVE the whole Harry Potter series. Why does this narrator continue to say Harry's name drawn out like "Haaareeeey" when he quotes one of the characters. He does it for Hagrid as well. It is so very annoying.

“Harreeeeeeeeee”

Ive already listened to the first three Harry Potter books on audible after reading the hard covers three times through and watching the movies count less time but they are just as exciting every time I hear the story. The only thing I can’t stand is every time hermione says Harry it sounds like harreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and I can’t stand it. Other wise everything is great.

Why must all the women be sniveling?

I know it’s sacrilege to say anything against Jim Dale, but why do all the women always sound like their whining? Why can’t Hermione say “Harry” instead of “Harrrrrrrreee”? It’s so upsetting to hear this voice. I wish we could get the Stephen Fry versions in the US.

Meh...

If you haven't gone through the series then this might not make a lot of sense but I am going to let you in on a secret; Harry Potter is a prat!

The character is so much better in the movies than in the book.

That said, it is still a great story but my complaint about Jim Dale as a narrator does not change until I get to book seven.

My recommendation is to power through the series and make up your own mind. Whether you like it or not, it is still a good story.

Only with Acceptance can There be Recovery

Story: Goblet of Fire is definitely one of the better stories in the series. The previous three were really good and I admit that Prisoner of Azkaban is still one of my favorites, but Goblet of Fire really lets the magic start to shine! The Tri-Wizard tournament and all the tasks were so captivating and illustrated so brilliantely that it was hard to stop listening. It's also interesting getting a look at the character progression and how they develop and also how the story continues to grow. You'll find a full story here, with twists, turns, witt, suspense and more.

Performance: Once again, this was another great performance. Jim Dale does a great job of capturing the characters and I believe gets them pretty spot on. More and more characters are introduced in the books and he finds a way to give them unique voices.

Overall: I really don't know what to say about this story to do it justice. The Tri-Wizard tournament and all the detail within the three tasks was excellent. The maze at the end and how completely different it was from the movie (I've only seen the movie up until now)- that really surprised me because I thought the movie would be at least somewhat similar. The amount of detail that somehow continues to grow and continues to develop the story is amazing. This is definitely a great story with great narration that can be enjoyed over and over again.
