I liked the way the Author danced between the historical time and current time. There was no stagnation in one theme, despite referencing the past the story kept moving forward.

Great balance between two worlds

17 century story was fine, modern day story was, well, the only word that comes to mind is sappy. I listened to 2 other of her books and liked them, this one found me saying out loud, way too often, while I listened, “give me a break”.
Characters in modern day seemed totally unbelievably.
