À propos de cet audio

Joe Eszterhas and Mel Gibson had a global confrontation in April of this year over their movie The Maccabees. Heaven and Mel is Eszterhas' explosive, unabridged, no-holds-barred account. It is a Hollywood story, but it's not. It is the story of love and hatred, of anti-Semitism and fathers and sons, and of a movie star's tragic sexual obsession. It is the story of God and the Devil, devastating but often hilarious. It is Joe Eszterhas at his best: two-fisted, movingly sensitive, always outrageous.

This detailed account of Joe Eszterhas' "working encounter" with Mel Gibson is a fascinating deep dive into both men's psyche. Mister Gibson's portrait is so vividly devastating that you'll never see him in the same light after listening to this audiobook, although no one gets out of this story totally unscathed : they all seem to be, to a certain extent, enablers to the book's subject excesses. Also, faith is an intricate part of this account and understanding (at least superficially) the Christian faith may help to further appreciate the story's narrative. Finally, Tim Halligan's performance is outstanding! It feels as if he lived through this tense relationship himself. Overall, a fascinating book about a monstrous bully with too much money and power to redeem himself through any creative endeavour.

The devil you may not know.
